...After easing myself gently back into review writing, I think it is time for me to tackle my most favoritist subject - food (& wine, but I don't really know much about that, except that it tastes nice *hic*) ...As some of you may know (from last review), Snarf and I recently paid a visit to Italy and spent a night in Verona, and obviously we needed to be fed & watered, and since Verona was the very last leg of our trip, we wanted to be fed & watered well - none of this pizza/pasta muck that we had been desperately trying to dodge for the most part of our holiday. So over a glass of Soave, we consulted our rough guide, which recommended that we tried Antica Bottega del Vino, it was in the mid-priced section and it sounded pretty good, it also highly recommended booking. Advantages: A unique and quaint hotel...
Disadvantages: Lacking a few mod-cons...

...We stayed in this hotel for a few days while on a little tour of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, including visits to Cancun (don't bother), Playa del Carmen & Cozumel (much better) and the amazing ancient Mayan ruins at Uxmal, Chitzen Itza and Tulum. (I'll try and get round to reviewing all these later...) We arrived by taxi from Merida airport (a short journey), having flown in from Cancun, where we had arrived in Mexico the day before, and were delighed with what we found, a massive improvement of the brash touristy-ness of Cancun ! The Casa del Balam Hotel was formerly the family home of Fernando Barbachano Peon, pioneer of Mexican tourism. Advantages: Cheap, Good fun, Good skiing area, Good drinking, Friendly locals
Disadvantages: 3 1/2 hour coach transfer to toulouse airport

...We have just spent the Xmas break in Pas de la Casa and it was our first visit to Andorra. Yes - we would go again. Although it was early in the season there was enough snow to make the holiday a good one. Skiing is quite extensive and the lift system is good with few queues. The lifts in the main are chair lifts which can be a bit unnerving for first timers but you soon get the hang of them. The nursery slopes are very crowded and its good that you only spend a day or so there before moving on to the blue runs where the greater space allows easier instuction. Ski instruction is very good with most if not all of the instructors speaking good english. This was our second ski holiday and probably our best to date. The town itself is lively and caters for a younger age group, but that doesnt mean if you are over 21 then you are past... Read review
