...As you get further away from the road flanking the river Serchio towards the valleys of torrent Freddana and Pedogna, you will enter the municipal territory of Pescaglia. Pescaglia was first mentioned in a ninth-century document. As early as the fourteenth century, it already had its own podesta and took part in the procession of Santa Croce diLucca with a flowered candle.
The village retains many traces of its mediaeval past; particularly noteworthy are the parish church, the town hall, "the Madonna della Solca", also called "Madonna of the Pebble", a very ancient fresco venerated in a little oratory north of the village.
The present municipality includes some typical villages full of quite interesting Romanesque churches and towers: Fondagno, Gello (with a beautiful Romanesque belfry and an ancient baptismal basin font...

...of Tuscany. Within 80 km you will find the well-known towns of Lucca, Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano and Siena as well as the famous sandy beaches near Viareggio. We did visit all those places during our vacation.
At the same time, you live in a very secluded area, far away from civilisation, in absolute tranquillty, in the hills of one of the most beautiful regions in Europe, with breathtaking views.
At this remote location, not even the mobile phones work properly - but this could be an advantage for spending your vacations to relax from work.
APARTMENTS AND FACILITIES
Fattoria die Colleoli consists of certain shared guest facilities, a small restaurant (more like a coffee shop), a swimming pool (with extra pool for children), a children play area, the office and reception.

Advantages: Cheap and Location Disadvantages: Not Onsuite and no breakfast
...have use of the Kitchen, thats the photo of the Stone Sink, yes it is there.
We did find this OK, as one of us would nip to the nearby bakers for all those Italian Pastries and bread for breakfast washed down with our own TEA and Coffee. It was a good way of meeting the other clients.
The location being inside the walls is very good as Lucca is not a very large place and fairly pedestrian friendly.
There is that lovely Tower to climb, the one we have all seen in the Photos with about 4 trees growing out of the top.
A lovely arena type place, if you watched Franco,s Italy series on BBC the arena where the Lady sang some Puccini, after all this is where he came from.
There is a small Puccini Museme very close to the Hotel.
Eating out is very good but be careful if they offer you VEGTABLES OF LUCCA, we thought...
