Lucca revisited

Advantages: Cycling around the city walls
Disadvantages: Parking

to the Duomo San Martino (cathedral). This is a nice place to visit to get away from the heat and bustle and sit and think. The darkness of Italian churches and cathedrals and the smell of insense and candles makes for a very calming experience. Remember to take something to cover shoulders and don't wear shorts...the guide books are actually right on that one. There are lots of little shops along the narrow alley ways. We found a lovely toy shop selling wooden toys, puppets, etc., loads of amazing delicatessant food shops and the usual tacky tourist souveneir shops. If you tire of Lucca itself, it is very well placed to reach many other places in Tuscany. We went to Pisa and made it to the top of the tower. We also went a bit further afield to the Island of Elba, taking our hire car over on the Ferry. What a beautiful ...

The discreet charm of the Casa San Blas

Advantages: A five-star stay?
Disadvantages: ?with just three-star facilities

simplicity often trumps ritzy ostentation. Attentive service matters, but nothing is nastier than the kind of smarmy obsequiousness that always seems to mask a sneer. And so on. Maybe it's simply down to that indefinable essence known as character or personality. These inconsequential musings are prompted by my trying to pinpoint what it was about the Casa San Blas at Cusco that I liked so much. The hotel is certainly not without its limitations and even its failings, but it's a nevertheless a charming and delightful place to stay. Let's try to summarise what it has to offer. * Location * The Casa San Blas is situated just a few minutes' walk from Cusco's Plaza de Armas (central square), and is therefore convenient for all the main sights of the ancient Inca capital, such as the Qorikancha (Sun Temple), the Cathedral ...

HOME COMFORTS or NOT IN LUCCA

Advantages: Cheap and Location
Disadvantages: Not Onsuite and no breakfast

have use of the Kitchen, thats the photo of the Stone Sink, yes it is there. We did find this OK, as one of us would nip to the nearby bakers for all those Italian Pastries and bread for breakfast washed down with our own TEA and Coffee. It was a good way of meeting the other clients. The location being inside the walls is very good as Lucca is not a very large place and fairly pedestrian friendly. There is that lovely Tower to climb, the one we have all seen in the Photos with about 4 trees growing out of the top. A lovely arena type place, if you watched Franco,s Italy series on BBC the arena where the Lady sang some Puccini, after all this is where he came from. There is a small Puccini Museme very close to the Hotel. Eating out is very good but be careful if they offer you VEGTABLES OF LUCCA, we thought that ...
