Advantages: Sun, Sea and FRANCE! Disadvantages: Hotels book up quickly!
...Cassis is a quiet peaceful village, east of the highest sea cliff in Europe, Cape Canaille. The city's motto (the SPELLING IS THEIRS TOO!!) is "Qui a vist Paris e noun Cassis a ren vist" (If you've seen Paris and not Cassis, you've seen nothing!)
It is famous for Les Calanques which are limestone cliffs and sheltered coves with turquoise water - as if the White Cliffs of Dover were transported to the Med.
Just what I needed after a week of Avignon sightseeing and Nice and it's crowded pebbly beaches.
I stayed in a small hotel called Hotel Laurence which had double rooms for 50 euros (May 03). However in high season these prices do increase!
Instead, I would suggest you could fly into Marseilles and then catch a train south to Cassis, then either catch the bus, which runs hourly into the town or get a taxi. DO NOT WALK! I...

Advantages: Attractive, picturesque, close to the city of Marseille and Aubagnia Disadvantages: It's a long long walk from the sea to the station, it's very touristy
...Nestling in the mountains between Marseille, Aubagnia, and La Çiotat. The Harbour of Cassis, an ancient fishing village, is overlooked by a small chateau which looks (to me anyway) as if it has been hewn out of the rock of the mountain. The area around the harbour almost looks like a miniture Nice (I would say), and it is surounded by some of the most spectacular mountainous scenery.
The village is quit friendly. But unfortunately it is very touristique and it can get very crowded.
Cassis is a short distance from Marseill, and the best way there is by bus. But you have to change at Aubagnia (It is well worth stopping there and having a look round). The bus is actually a fully air conditioned coach aptly called the Navette, meaning shuttle.
If you are staying in the provance region I strongly recommend paying a visit to Cassis...

Advantages: A remake and inspirational production Disadvantages: Nothing except that it is not showing in West End
....
This show was not adapted from a film or vice-versa, but it has the 'cinematic' feel for a musical production. In particular, the portrayals of the 18 hopeful dancers were outstanding like the roles of Cassie, Diana, Shiela and Paul.
The emotional confrontation between Zach (in-charge/director of the audition) and Cassie somehow adds the 'lover story' of the show. Cassie's strong determination and humbleness to face her ex-boyfriend was one of the best parts of the musical, and while the comical stage presence of Shiela always brought the audience into laughter. Diana's rendition of the 'What I did for Love' was really moving for having...
