Advantages: Sightseeings starts at 3 Euros a day Disadvantages: Avoid rush hours!
...", restaurants and Bars are many and you may choose from different prices, you can also look for restaurants with live singed "FADO" the typical portuguese song style (specially for Lisboa and Coimbra).
Back to the public transports you can look at Carris web site, for the electric 28 (an old electric) that goes from Martim Moniz to Campo de Ourique (Prazeres), it´s a very good journey and if you are in Rossio you can take the bus 9 to Campo de Ourique and at the end you'll have the 28's electric stop, from there will take you about 40 minutes to Martim Moniz and on the way you'll see a lot from the old Lisboa, including a bit of Bairro Alto, Mouraria, and the Castelode São Jorge area (if you have a one day ticket you can leave there and go to the "Castelo" - Great sightseeing place).

Advantages: It's got all you need and more Disadvantages: nightlife not as active as you might want
...are in Viana, you might also want to look at Ponte de Lima, Âncora, Valença, Cerveira.
They are all within reasonable driving distance.
HOW TO GET THERE
Viana do Castelo is about 60km from Porto, making it very assessible from the airport.
A flight from London to Poro starts from GBP100, and from Manchester starts GBP170 return.
In the airport you can rent a car (advisable), but there are also connesction by bus and taxi to train stations. There is a motorway that will take you to Viana. A taxi fare from the airport to Viana os about 25E.
It is a wonderful city and it will keep you occupied all thoughout. The locals are great and I am in love with it (as you can see). I am visiting three times a year and it is still enchanting.
However, if you expect a place like the Algarve, you will be disappointed.
If you do go there enjoy it...

If you stand in the northern end of central Lisbon, in the Parque Edouardo VII, everywhere around you is at ‘alto’ level. Then you notice that there seems to be a central strip with a clear view all the way to the waterfront. It’s as if someone has dug a long sloping...

A very warm welcome to any of you who have not read a RICHADA café piece, there are actually quite a few of them in my portfolio here, but they have slipped so far down the list that a lot of you will either not know what I do for a living, or, just as... more
