Advantages: Beautiful City, Excellent Night Life Disadvantages: Can't Find Any
...(the expensive area of Porto, where you can find the best 5*** hotels as well), or you can go to Cedofeita (the less expensive area). In Cedofeita there is several monuments really beautiful and very old, among them the famous Clerigos tower (the view from there is great). You can also go to St.Catarina St (near Sao Bento train station).
I suggest visiting Palácio De Cristal (Crystal Palace) in Boavista and Castelo do Queijo in Foz.
I have to say you will find this City friendly and the good thing is 70% of the population can speak basic English.
Well I could be here for ages writing about Porto, but this is just a brief review.
Go there, enjoy, and be happy....

Advantages: A perfect City break Disadvantages: Few
...'s northern industrial region and its wealth is obvious, with a palacial Stock Exchange, the Clerigos tower built in the C18th by an Italian architect; Sao Bento railway station with 20,000 hand-painted tiles of historical scenes decorating the walls and the Café Majestic with mirrored walls and crystal chandeliers. Old and rich.
Despite it’s age, Oporto is a modern cosmopolitan city with ultra-modern shopping centres and offices springing up everywhere. On the other hand, the Rua deSantaCatarina is a pedestrianised street where the main boutiques and coffee shops are located and the Bulhao is a covered market – go and savour the hams, sausages and the beautiful flowers on sale.
Go to one of the restaurants on the Ribeira for lunch, maybe to the sound of Fado, the traditional soul music of Portugal, and if you’re brave...

Advantages: It's got all you need and more Disadvantages: nightlife not as active as you might want
...are in Viana, you might also want to look at Ponte de Lima, Âncora, Valença, Cerveira.
They are all within reasonable driving distance.
HOW TO GET THERE
Viana do Castelo is about 60km from Porto, making it very assessible from the airport.
A flight from London to Poro starts from GBP100, and from Manchester starts GBP170 return.
In the airport you can rent a car (advisable), but there are also connesction by bus and taxi to train stations. There is a motorway that will take you to Viana. A taxi fare from the airport to Viana os about 25E.
It is a wonderful city and it will keep you occupied all thoughout. The locals are great and I am in love with it (as you can see). I am visiting three times a year and it is still enchanting.
However, if you expect a place like the Algarve, you will be disappointed.
If you do go there enjoy it...
