...Brownsea Island is situated in Poole Harbour, A wonderfully atmospheric island of heath and woodland, privately owned until 1962, when the National Trust bought it. It is now a haven for a rich variety of wildlife, including a colony of red squirrels and many species of birds. Part of the island is leased as a nature reserve to the Dorset Wildlife Trust. There are many lovely walks on the island including a walk through the first scout camp that Baden Powell took his troops of scouts too.
A very interesting island, there is a castle on the island, but it is not open to the public. Access is by boat from Poole Quay.
A lovely day out and the temperature on the island is always a couple of degrees higher than on the mainland....

...The fantastic section of coastline between Bamburgh and Seahouses, falls within the Northumberland Hertitage Coast and is alsl an area of outstanding natural beauty. Below Bamburgh Castle a walk north leads to Budle Bay. The salt marsh, mud and sand flats are part of the Lindisfarne nature reserve, which covers the whole of the Fenham flats and most of Holy Island itself. The area provides feeding for thousands of waders and wildfowl. Access to Holy Island is by causeway that is beneath water for at least 11 hours each day. With its Castle and Priory Holy Island is steeped in history and well worth a visit, a walk around the island reveals unspoilt sandy (not suitable for bathing)If you are really lucky you may spot grey seals basking in the sea or on the nearby rocks, as well as large colonies of sea birds including puffins, that nest...

...was a colony of sooty terns. Hundreds of thousands of these birds come to Christmas Island to breed. When they arrive, they fly day and night for weeks swirling, chattering mass above their breeding sites, waiting for all the birds to arrive before they finally settle to nest on the bare ground.
Fledging sooty terms begin their ocean wandering at about three months of age. They do not return to land until some five to seven years later, when they are ready to breed. During those years away, they spend most of their time in the air. There is not enough oil in their feathers to allow them to remain afloat on water.
We saw black noddies sitting on nests, along with their chicks and un-hatched eggs. Whereas theses seabirds build a nest for their young, the white terns do not. They lay eggs on bare tree branches. Fortunately, their young hatch...
