...to Monreale which remains, in my opinion, the most beautiful cathedral in the whole of Italy (and include everything which i have seen in Florence, Rome, Milan etc).
The other main areas to see in Palermo are the Teatro Massimo, the wonderful opera house. It is very easy and cheap to buy tickets there in the opera season. i went to a ballet for four euros and an opera for five euros and even if you hate the art form, it is worth it to see the amazing interior and to sweep down the external staircase!
The catacombs in Palermo are quite unique and very different from their Roman or Neapolitan counterparts! The monks in the Capuchin Abbey developed new ways of preserving bodies and you can see the corpses, still dressed in the clothes of the period in which they died, some still with hair and teeth and eery looks as their gazes meet you as you...

Advantages: Beautiful places, tropical beaches sun in summer, snow in winter! Perfect! Disadvantages: Not much to do in some places.
...!
--- Catania - (cah-TA-nee-ah) Located to the east of Sicily, this region has many sights and places to visit. The most famous of these has to be Mount Etna. It's the largest active volcano in Europe and stands at over 10,000 feet! Because of the many eruptions, though, this figure is rising! There are organised tours available and hikes up the mountain and I would strongly advise using one. It gets chilly up there though, so pack some warm clothes for the ascent!
Some other places of interest are the 'Castagno dei Cento Cavalli' which means the chestnut tree of one hundred horses. This is apparently the oldest tree in the world and is a popular venue for tourists and scientists alike.
Another place worth a visit is San Gregorio. This village features some of the strangest grottoes in the world. They're home to bats and other creepies...

Advantages: beautiful experience, beautiful temples Disadvantages: the temples are surrounded by hugly houses wich ruin the beauty of the landscape
...Valle dei templi is a must if you go and visit Sicily, it is fanstastic experience and seems you are back in the past in the Greek times. The best time to go is Spring. I would avoid the summer because it could be too hot . you pay a small fee to enter into the temple and the visit can last about 2 hours. To bad you can\"t go inside the temple of Giunone but it worth to go there anyway.
during the night the temples are illuminated and it looks like a great show. You could visit the valley but not necesserely spend the night into the city of Agrigento because the seeside and the small seavillages around are much better then the citycenter....
