None! Be warned if you hire a car as you will have to park some way from the hotel and the local police just love to ticket hire cars!

Location: 8½/10 The Hotel is situated in a nice quiet residential area about ten minutes walk from the centre of Mahon and only 5kms from the airport. It is set on a cliff above the port which can be reached down a long and steep road at the back of the hotel or by a large set of steps from the centre of the city.
Appearance: 8½/10 Quite modern and well kept, with a large terrace area at the side.
Parking: 0/10 None! Be warned if you hire a car as you will have to park some way from the hotel and the local police just love to ticket hire cars!
Lobby: 8/10 Reception and lounge are in the same area, the reception staff are extremely helpful and friendly, they can arrange car hire and will give you a local map of the area. The lounge is bright and well decorated with cane furniture and glass tables.
Bar and Terrace: 8/10 The bar is next to the lounge and is quite small. It serves bottled beers and a selection of spirits, wines and soft drinks you can also order sandwiches up to 11.00 pm. To be honest it is very expensive compared to the city bars and is also closed most of the afternoon, which is a real pain if you fancy a coffee as room service does not start until eight in the evening. The terrace has really great views over the harbour and also over the hotels landscaped gardens and outdoor swimming pool. I cannot comment on the outdoor pool as it was early April and cold! However, it looked clean and well kept.
Spa: 8½/10 The Jacuzzi and gym are free to use for hotel guests. The Jacuzzi is large, warm and very relaxing. The gym only consists of a bike, treadmill and weights; this really didn’t bother me as I had no intention of building up a sweat preferring to soak my tired old bones.
Rooms: 8/10 View to the front 0/10 View to the right 10/10 The hotel has sixty nine rooms including singles, doubles and triples; some are on the ground floor and have access to the garden. We booked a triple room and I was surprised at the size having been used to an extra bed squeezed into a twin room, this was a corner aspect room and was huge! 'Grumpy teenager' had his own part all to himself, so he could snore his little heart out! My end consisted of twin beds a mini bar, dressing table and fitted wardrobe. The furniture had seen better days, but the beds were extremely comfortable. The wardrobes lacked space, there was enough room for us but we were only staying for four days. There is a safety deposit box which costs just over 3 euros a day, air conditioning a large ceiling fan and satellite TV (yes you guessed it, just BBC world!). I did notice, while I was there, that the hotel had started to refurbish some rooms with new contemporary furniture. The bathroom was large, well lit and very clean and had a working hairdryer which got going after about two minutes. Now for the reason for my title……the balcony! It was about two feet by five, just enough for two of us to stand on and if you looked to the right you had a fantastic view of the port, however, the frontal view was the local concrete works over the other side of the harbour. So to recap, walk out of the balcony door sideways!!
Dining: 9/10 The dining room also had great views and was much more intimate that larger hotels. A pleasant waitress served us fresh coffee every morning and took our orders for ‘show cooking’, i.e. bacon, eggs or omelette. The cooked food was wonderful and so was the buffet which consisted of the usual fruit, yoghurts, cold meat, bread etc but also a proper toastie maker! It was a lovely relaxing place to start your day. They do serve evening meals but with all the choice in the city we didn’t try dinner.
Recommendation Yes I would recommend a short stay here, It is close enough to enjoy the city but without the noise. It is very clean and tidy and the staff are extremely friendly. Just remember to look to the right! I will try and get a photo on, but ‘grumpy’ has a new computer and I have to sort it out! Thanks for reading. Jean
