Ok, Sharm El Sheikh isnt Cairo, in fact it's no where near Cairo (you wouldn't believe how big Egypt is). But I wasnt disappointed and just couldn't wait to arrive in the country.
Sharm El Sheikh is a newly developed tourist resort, in the Sinai peninsula and on the coast of the Red Sea (once believed to have been parted by Moses to free the jews). Sharm El Sheikh is surrounded by mystery and religion. The infamous Mount Sinai is the place where God spoke to Moses and delivered the 10 commandments.
The area is amazing and I felt priveleged to be there, to be in a place home to such famous bible stories.
On the plane, flying over from the Mediterranean to above Egypt, the view was stunning. For miles and miles there was nothing but desert, it seemed unreal seeing this before my eyes. The sand covered so much...

We booked via lastminute.com just 4 days before we went there - at £ 179 per person for 7 nights a real bargain. Included were:
- flight with Astraeus (charter airline) from and to Gatwick
- 7 nights accommodation incl. breakfast in the Ocean Bay Hotel
- transfer from and to the airport in Sharm el Sheikh
Travel insurance is included in our bank account arrangements, so we didn't need to buy. If you intend to go diving a lot, an extra insurance cover is advisable.
After the booking we got contacted by the travel agency ('Explorers' - specialist in diving holidays). The whole transaction went very smooth, no problems whatsoever. Two days before...

When and Where: Sheraton Sharm - 28th Feb 05 for 2 weeks
Hotel Rating 7 out of 10.
Advantages: large beautiful complex with its own beach and coral reef, well-equipped rooms (satellite TV, fridge, Air con) and in good order. Hotel runs a shuttle bus to main resort
Disadvantages: Need to get a Taxi to main resort (~£3 to £4 British money each way), No entertainment at night and no water sold in complex unless purchased at bar (so they can charge more)
Excursions Purchased:
·Cairo by Air - ~£185p/p (Flight to Cairo is at approximately 6am, Return flight about 6pm). Destinations - Museum, Pyramids (GIZA), Citadel, Hard Rock Café (lunch included in cost). Excellent value for money and overall brilliant day. Cairo Airport is poorly organized so expect delays.
