I can't afford to pay the thousands of pounds it costs to fly first class long haul, so for the family holiday this year to Hong Kong and Singapore we booked economy class through our travel agent. From the minute we stepped on board the cabin staff were extremely helpful - they were all Chinese but as we came to expect from almost every Hong Kong resident we met, they all had impeccable English and treated all the passengers excellently.
It would be hard to imagine an economy seat any better than on Cathay. From the in-seat TV and gaming rig provided on all planes as standard to the in-flight food menu! They actually give you a choice of what you want to eat - usually of very good quality too. In addition, if you need sandwiches or ice cream throughout long-haul flights, just ask and they will get you some 'courtesy of the captain'.
They provide blankets, pillows and socks. They give you headphones and their film channels are a great way to loose a few hours on board! The legroom is satisfactory - but then again, it's economy after all - something you would otherwise forget on Cathay!
