Focusing on fresh seafood and regional fare, the lobby-level Jack Tar Bar and Grill serves lunch and dinner daily. A coffee shop is also on site. Guests have access to 30,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, a self-service business center (surcharge), and hotel-wide wireless Internet access (surcharge). The Cathedral Hill Hotel is a smoke-free property. Cathedral Hill Hotel guestrooms offer views of the city or a central courtyard from balconies or through large windows that open. Amenities in all rooms include wireless and wired high-speed Internet access (surcharge), coffeemakers, and video games (surcharge). ...We stayed at the Chancellor Hotel by accident! We had hotel vouchers for our visit to SanFrancisco but the hotel we stayed in on our first night was so awful (and in one of the more dangerous areas of the city - we heard that the street on which it was situated had the highest murder rate in SanFrancisco!) that we decided to ring SanFrancisco Reservations, a hotel broker mentioned in our guide book. Hotel brokers basically rent out hotel rooms at short notice at lower than advertised prices. That is how we were able to stay in the Chancellor, which is a 3 star hotel, for $50 per night! According to the hotel's website, special room rates start at $125 per night, so we definitely got a good deal by going through SanFrancisco Reservations!
The Chancellor Hotel is right on Union Square in the centre of SanFrancisco and is convenient...

Planet Hollywood is also nice to eat and not as busy as the one in London. Tables are not a problem.
Down at Fishermans Wharf and Pier 39 there are many nice Seafood restaurants. Quite expensive but very tasty if you like fresh seafood.
Shopping.

If you want bargains, DONT come to SanFrancisco. Go To Florida if you want that.
Here are some of the more fine shopping district. Not bargain basement malls.
You will find Macy's on the Square offering all sorts of fashions and accessories. In the lobbies of many of the hotels you will find Versace, Gucci and other fine shops.
Tipping.

...banging and thumping in the room above us. After a few minutes, I went up to see what was happening. Two workmen were dismantling the room! I went down to the office, and in fact met the chap who had checked us in on the stairs. I asked how long the noise would continue, and a look of horror crossed his face. "They were supposed to finish before 5," he said, and went straight up to tell them to stop. It seems they thought they would make a start on another room before knocking off!
A final tip: There are lots of great places to eat in SanFrancisco, but if you stay here, or at any of the nearby hotels, and fancy a great hamburger, go to Polkers on Polk street, which runs parallel to Van Ness, one block up. Joe Satriani is considered by many as one of the greatest guitarists to have ever lived. He manages to combine technical brilliance with melody to produce some excellent and powerful songs. He plays a good rock song too.
