Greeting at reception was very friendly and efficient and we walked through the typically complicated coridoors of an old building to our room, which was on the first floor in a new block, which had been built to match the style of the original buidling. Our room was clean and spacious, with relatively new decor. Flat screen TV with a range of channels including Sky Sports news.
Bathroom was a little tired, and we had a particular problem with both the bath and shower taps which were very difficult to turn on, and then very difficult to turn off, without leaving a constant trickle of water running. On the first night, we also experienced knocking noises from the plumbing until about 1am, but this was corrected the next day after raising this with reception.
Breakfast was OK, with a limited cold buffet plus cooked items to order. The smoked haddock with poached egg was aprticularly good. Evening meal was excellent. Our package included the full table d'hote menu, and it was good to see that there were no supplements, as often happens elsewhere. There was a good choice and all meals were very well cooked and presented, with a large individual selection of vegetables.
Wines were surprisingly reasonable - average bottle around £15. Other drinks also well priced.
There is a golf course on site - about £13 per round, and plenty to see in the local area - Beverly and Hornsea are worth visiting.
Overall this was a very pleasant stay in comfortable surroundings at a very reasonable cost.
