Caye Caulker is an island, which now consists of 2 island since the hurricane in 1961 split it up in 2 islands!.

It can be dangerous to swim in unprotected areas since there are a lot of engine-boats in the lagoon, and they do not seem to care to much about swimmers!

It is very easy to arrange a boat trip to be taken to the reef, where you can go snorkeling. I would highly recommend this. There are plenty of tropical fishes in the water, and corals.

Just one word of caution. Try not to touch the coral, since, apart from the fact that you would damage it, it can be bad for your health. Some corals cause burnings, and many can cause small cuts.

I stayed at Tom's Hotel for $40 per night in a modern cabin. Cheaper accomodation can be found, but if you can afford it, this place is worth its money.
