The food and service at the resort were great, the people in Scicily are so nice. The little village of Cefalu is beautyful, small streets with nice shops, in medieval style. The cathedral is so ... ...home is a must, also bring some of the local wines. In supermarkets, wines and spirits are very cheap and of good quality. I can especially recommend the red local wine, Sedara of Donnafugata, it is lovely. In all, we had a great vacation, and we also learned that a relaxed way of life, such as the people have in Scicily makes all the difference. We needed a good couple of weeks to adjust to the hectic European way of life. I wish one day.....I could ... more
Last october my husband and I went to Scicily for two weeks. We went by plane, a good two hours flying. When we landed on the airport we were stunned by the view; on three sides of us we saw a deep blue sea and the fourth side a huge mountain. You just cannot imagine landing on such a small corner of the island. We went to hour final destination, the Calanica resourt in Cefalu, by bus. We had a georgeous bungalow, polinesian style, and very private. Small but very clean and romantic. Right up a cliff above the sea, we only had to walk the steps down to get to the private beach. They seem to have a very large selection of starters in this place.
I had a fish salad, while my colleague had grilled aubergines togetehr with other grilled vegetables. Both dishes were very fresh.
For the first meal, I had pasta with alici, ... ...ncasciata alla cifalutana, apparently the speciality of Cefalu.
We then both had fish, sword fish myself and grilled fish my colleague.
The waiters claimed everything in their restaurant is fresh of the dayand that fish is delivered or bought directly from fishermen.
In my experience, this seems to be the case.
We also had the house white wine, which was quite strong. Their wine list is good.
We did not have time for dessert, but the table next ...
