Advantages Great for kids
Disadvantages Does not live up to promise
After hearing wonderful things from friends who have been, and seen the seductive TV advertising, we finally made it to a Center Parcs. We loved the car free environment, and enjoyed the activities we managed to book - racketball, bowling, archery, etc... but the weekend was marred by the rather joyless staff, worn-out villa, slow service and poor food. The various beauty and relaxation treatments were all booked up - the stressed-out mob at the booking desk indicated they had overpromised this in the brochure and ads, and simply don't have the capacity to deliver... it's all very well saying you have to book in advance, but still means late comers do not get the service they were promised. Activities that are booked up early is in principle no different from running out of food in the restaurant. The much-vaunted pool area was jam-packed with bodies, with nowhere left to sit or even to leave your towel. A far cry from the woman lying on her back in an empty pool that you see in the brochure (not that we expected that, but we did expect to be able to lounge by the pool for a while). We also found the pricing structure odd - a weekend is defined as Friday to Monday - unless you want to take a day off work, you end up paying for a night you cannot use.
