the most beautiful place on earth
Review of General: Vietnam by waughy

Advantages: cheap cheerful full of culture
Disadvantages: the people are so tiny you feel like a giant

...i loved vietnam from the moment i stepped off the plane. Even through it was monsoon season and rained most of the time. The people are friendly the food is excellent the nightlife amazing. Vietnam was not at all what i was expecting. On visiting the war museum in Ho Chi Ming City I cryed as it is so emotional reading the stories and some of the pictures are quite horrific. You have to be careful on the raods as there are so many bikes it can be quite dangerous. One thing i found amazing is the girls when out keep themselves completely covered up from the sun as they want to stay as pale as possible as white is very beautiful in there country. I will definately be going again in the future before it is too commercial.... Read review

Danau Toba
Review of Lake Toba (Sumatra) by willow

Advantages: scenery
Disadvantages: persistent souvenir sellers

...A trip to Sumatra for many is not complete without a trip to Lake Toba. Danau Toba is the local name for this lake which is the biggest in Indonesia. The lake itself is three times larger than Singapore and is about 450 metres deep. Lake Toba is accessible from a small town called Parapat on the north eastern side of the lake. The lake itself is stunning and reminds me somewhat of Lake Windemere. There is a huge island in the middle of the lake called Samosir island which was originally inhabited by the Batak people of Indonesia. The Bataks are an indigenous tribe of cannibalistic people who came from the northern regions of Cambodia and Vietnam and settled in the highlands of Sumatra. There are three settlements on the island still and if you go to Tomok village on Samosir you will be able to see a few tombs of the Batak King and his... Read review
