Central Park expresses the personality of New York even more than Hyde Park does for London or the EnglischerGarten does for Munich. Every facet of New York life is there. Sunday, between mid-morning and early afternoon is the time to go,any time of the year. The joggers will always be there - often with hilarious matching dogs - but in winter you must see the ice skaters at the Columbus Circle end, and in summer the model boats on the lake at the centre. The Old Carousel is amazing - a true antique reminder of the early years of the century in the park - relive your own childhood delight at a ride on an intricately carved prancing horse! It's common sense not to go there at night unless you are attending a specific park event, but any day, do make the effort. You will not have experienced Manhattan and its people close-up, otherwise.
