When we first arrived at the hotel we were not greeted by any one and there wasn't a single member of staff to be found. We found this rather odd as we had already stayed at three different (and supposedly lesser quality) hotels and thought this was customary. We eventually found the check in point and no one was around to even help us with our bags so we were struggling with everything. After a couple of minutes someone came to us.
We eventually checked in and while we were waiting, we were given a welcome drink - ice cold guava juice in a coconut, which was their only plus point so far! We were also given an ice cold cloth which was needed as it get soo hot. The rooms were average to say the least but had all the basics. Air conditioning, bath robes, slippers, safe, tv etc. The rooms were about half the size of the rest of the hotels we had stayed at and the decor was pretty average. We stayed in a twin room and the beds were a bit close together (closer that we were used to). There was some storage but not enought hangers if you wanted to hang up your clothes
There weren't any facilities to make tea or coffee but it was always available at the hotel restaurant if needed. Breakfast was served between 6.30am and 9am and even thought we got there late at times there was always food for us. The food consists of a wide selection of Fruit, cereals, croissants. you can also make your own toast with a variety of spreads. There is a selection of hot food and like sausages and egg. The food stocks seemed to be replenished often so you don't have to wait around for too long. There were always seating space and trays cutlery etc.
While we were out, there was a power cut which affected the hotel as well as half the town and we came back to find dirty footprints in our bath!!!. To the hotels credit, they brought a maid to clean it straightaway but it did not look good. We had numerous other problems with our lighting etc and their responses are sometimes slow. But then it is a rather large hotel.
Our room had a balcony with sun loungers which faced greenery and beyond that was the beach. Some people may rate this hotel as a 4 star but for me it felt more like a 3 star hotel. I did see a few families at the hotel and it is family friendly
The food was very good and the staff (when you see them) are very friendly. There is also some light entertainment in the evenings singers etc. The beach is good and clean when compared to other parts of Chaweng beach. The hotel offers some wonderful facilities from aerobics to diving and various exercising activities.
Apart from the negatives, the hotel is average, basic and average value for money. It is also very busy and may not be as quiet as some may prefer. For 100 baht more a night (£1.50) we were able to stay in an absolutely gorgeous hotel down the road called Muang Samui Resort and Spa. Please read my review on that hotel to find out more.
