I first saw "Central do Brasil" (English title - CentralStation) several years ago but having seen it again recently I thought that my collection of film reviews on Ciao would be sadly lacking without reference to it.
CentralStation is a Brazilian film released in 1998 and it was nominated for 2 Oscars (Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Foreign Film) in 1999 and won the BAFTA for Best Foreign Film. It is directed by renowned Brazilian director Walter Salles (who also did "Behind the Sun" and "Foreign Land"). It is in Portuguese with English subtitles.

I have an on-going debate with my Belgian colleague Joep about who and what Belgium is famous for. We've done the 'Name 10 'famous' Belgians' challenge a dozen times and even tracked down the 'www.famousbelgians.net website to substantiate some of the names were weren't too sure about. But one thing we both agree on is that it's easier to think of famous foodstuffs for which Belgian is renowned. There's the chocolate, the zillions of different beers, the outstanding national skills with chips and my favourite - mussels. Everyone has probably heard of Jean-Claude van Damme - the man nicknamed the muscles from Brussels. This review is an account of my hunt for the mussels of Antwerp.

The Hauptbahnhof Centralstation is one of the busiest places in Stuttgart but it also remains one of Stuttgart's best kept secrets. As well as the bustling station below, it is possible to climb the tower, topped with the world famous Mercedes star, and look out over the city centre of Stuttgart.
Although nowhere near as high as the TV tower outside the city, the station tower gives you a much more intimate view of Stuttgart allowing views of the main high street (KonigStrasse), the old and new castles in Schlossplatz, the planetarium, the opera house as well as the train lines coming into the station below you.
For those feeling unfit there is a lift to the level directly below the observation platform that unfortunately closes if there is high winds but there are also displays on several floors up the tower.
