Advantages: Great breakfast, peaceful and attractive location Disadvantages: Ugly 70s style rooms with a surfeit of brown. Dirty bathrooms and a general lack of warmth
Misty mountain home
The second stop of our recent German holiday was an overnight in the Black Forest, an area of particular natural beauty where we'd been hopeful of some gentle walking and enough Black Forest ham and gateaux to hospitalise ourselves. Sadly enough we never actually got to try any gateaux, although the region did meet our other expectations.
The region was very misty during our visit and this actually added to its charm. As we approached the guesthouse it looked very attractive from the outside - a sizeable chalet style property, very much in keeping with local styles.
Prices and booking
There are a couple of sites where it's possible to book this guesthouse online, including www.activehotels.com and their own website at http://adler-pelzmuehle.privat.t-online.de/. Rooms start at roughly 70 Euros ...
Advantages: Central location, clean Disadvantages: Food, rooms
We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated ...
Advantages: Addictive, exciting, wide-appeal Disadvantages: Some of rarer titles are difficult to find
and the location (Austria and Switzerland were especially interesting). My first Chalet School book was given to me by my Grandmother - I saw the list of 'other titles' on the last page and knew I'd have to read the next, and the next…
But as a 24-year-old ddult I continue to read them. The books are beautifully written, with lots of period detail - they even deal with the Nazism and the effects it had on Austria and Europe, in an accessible, but effective way. The books have multi-layers to them, so that both adults and children can enjoy them - in a similar way to the Harry Potter books.
They are not even just for females. I know a couple of males who have enjoyed the books tremendously.
I have been collecting the Chalet School books since I was 9, and only have 3 titles left to find to complete my collection. Easy you might think ...
