style it is only 8 - 10 minutes away from the railway station and the boat landing pier. The hotel is rustic and cozy and enjoys a magnificient view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountain range. The exterior of the hotel\'s main building is traditional and as the name suggests it is of chalet style. The hotel also has an annexe in which most of the rooms are housed. This building is behind the main building and is modern in style. Downstairs there is a childrens\' play room. Bicycles are available free of charge. The restaurant is well known for its delicious \"cheese fondue\" and \"fondue bourguignoone\".
Advantages: Almost perfect Disadvantages: Almost none - ok maybe one: no lift
...- Interlaken West and Interlaken Ost. Trains from Geneva or Montreux stop at Interlaken West before arriving at Interlaken Ost and trains to Luzern from Interlaken Ost. It takes only 3 minutes to travel by train from Interlaken West to Interlaken Ost and swiss trains are so efficient you needn't worry about changing platforms that are too far apart. Hotel Rugenpark is only 3 minutes walk away from Interlaken West. I would say staying near Interlaken West is better than Interlaken Ost because there are more shops surrounding the west station and the tourist information centre is also near the west station. To find the hotel, turn left when you exit the train station, walk straight ahead for 3 minutes and you will find the hotel on your left.

Advantages: Central Disadvantages: Some poor architecture
...We took a great holiday in Switzerland two years ago. We flew to Zurich and hired a car, which we drove down to Interlaken.
Interlaken is not a large place, in fact its pretty small. It is quite picturesque, but has been spoiled by some pretty nasty 1960's architecture, which is a great shame.
We stayed in a very traditional chalet style family run hotel, which was very good.
Interlaken is really best used as a base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and, if you're up to it, to travel round most of the cities of the west half of Switzerland. Italy is pretty close, and worth a trip over the border too.
All in all, nice, shame its been a little spoilt....

...to the top. You can reach Jungfraujoch by taking a pretty 20-minute train journey through pine forest and small towns from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen where you change to a cog railway, which is a clever Swiss invention with a slotted pinion between the running rails that the train's cogwheel uses to pull itself up the most ridiculously steep slopes. So there's no chance of the train slipping downhill in icy conditions.
You change trains at Kleine Scheidegg and another cog railway takes you all the way to Jungfraujoch.
---What's the journey like?---
Lauterbrunnen is situated in the world's largest U-shaped valley and the cog train journey up its steep sides offers 'biscuit tin lid' views of the emerald green valley floor dotted with classic, steep-roofed wooden chalets with courful shuttered windows, pointy churches, winding rivers, pine...
