Charleston South Carolina

Advantages: Interesting and beautiful place to visit
Disadvantages: none

Charleston is on the coast of South Carolina. It is a town which is dominated by it’s past and almost everything seems to be perfectly preserved. The downtown area is compact with narrow streets which are easy to navigate. We took a horse-drawn tour of the city to give us a feel for the place and I can highly recommend this. This covers all the major historic sites, gave us some background information on some of the previous inhabitants and also gave us tips on places to eat, shop etc. We were then able to explore ourselves and go back to some of the areas covered on the tour for a closer look. Many of the preserved houses are open to the public. For anyone visiting Charleston a trip to the market is a must. This was once a slave market but is now home to a colourful market selling everything from fruit, souvenirs and baskets ...

Anyone fancied a SHAG

Advantages: The History and Culture
Disadvantages: The Humid Atmosphere

First up I think I need to explain this title of my option a bit, a shag is the national dance of South Carolina, a very complicated dance I have yet to master but looks a lot of fun. Having lived in both America and England I have seen a lot of differeces between the two places, and one of them is the language so I thought I would play with it a bit to get some more reads. Sorry but you were fooled. Having lived here until I was 12 years old I have loved the place since the first time I could look around and remember a place. Charleston is a place full of warmth and hospitality. People are always friendly and there is always a smile on the local’s lips. Charleston is situated on the coast of South Carolina and has warm temperatures up to 100 degree's F in the summer and does not get much colder then 40-50 degrees F in ...

This is now a Marriott!!

Advantages: Great shuttle bus to the historic district
Disadvantages: Bathrooms are a little on the small side

We have just returned from a week staying at the Marriott Charleston. We were here for a wedding and to do as much sight seeing as possible in our 5 days and this hotel was perfect for both. When we arrived at Charleston airport we caught a taxi from outside that cost $25 to the Marriott. On arrival, check in was very swift and we were given our room keys to our room on the 10th floor - room 1016. The room had a view towards the city and to the right you could see the Ashley River - slightly oblique views though. The room itself was very pleasant inside. Huge kingside bed - which is on the firm side but lovely and comfortable, big heavy looking solid wood TV cabinet, with large TV, safe, refrigerator, and draws contained within. There were a couple of side tables, large desk and chair, along with an armchair and coffee table. There ...
