Forget The History What's Cheltenham Got In 2006

Advantages: Everything all in one location
Disadvantages: Lots of regeneration at present, changes are afoot.

...to rest and moving to Cheltenham to start a new one. Lots of people have been asking me about Cheltenham, what's there etc. and upon looking through other reviews for this great town I find lots of history but no real depth as to what the place has to offer; what sort of lifestyle Cheltenham will provide you with. So I'm skipping the history and telling you what Cheltenham has to offer in 2006.

The Place

...the East of Gloucester. Cheltenham is surrounded by hills on three sides; these hills are known as the Cotswolds. From a rail commuters point of view Cheltenham sits 1 hour from Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham and Swindon. 2 Hours from Bath, Derby, and London. And 3 Hours from Manchester, Darlington, York and Exeter. For those wishing to commute a lesser distance by rail Gloucester is just a 6 minute train ride away. But my most important question is ... more

Who Needs A City Break

Advantages: Beautiful, Varied, Plenty to do
Disadvantages: Can be expensive, Race week is a rip-off and has been spoilt

Cheltenham lies in Gloucestershire at the heart of the Cotswolds, a very beautiful part of England. I spent a valentine weekend there earlier this year which was my first full experience of the town. ~BRIEF HISTORY OF CHELTENHAM~ Cheltenham is an Anglo-Saxon market town which was completely transformed in the Georgian era. It wasn't until 1716 when it's fortunes turned on an upward curve, as legend has it pigeons were spotted in a muddy field pecking ...
...pump rooms were built and Cheltenham became a magnet for the wealthy who embraced the healing waters springing forth from the ground. King George the 3rd visited in 1788 and with the Royal patronage he gave, a building boom ensued. Georgian society flocked and built rows and rows of delightful Regency terraces complete with ornate wrought iron railings and pretty garden squares and parks. At it's height when Cheltenham was a holiday haven for rich ...

CHELTENHAM HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, great nightlife
Disadvantages: traffic is a nightmare

I have lived in Cheltenham all of my life apart from moving away for a few months. It’s where all my family are and where my family have lived for many years. After all home is where the heart is and my heart will always be in Cheltenham. Cheltenham or to give the town its full name Cheltenham Spa is known as the heart of the Cotswolds and home to the world famous Gold Cup Horse racing meeting. For those of you that have never heard of Cheltenham ...
...the county of Gloucestershire. Cheltenham has good transport links with the M5 motorway running from North to South an airport based just outside the town at Staverton and Cheltenham is on the main train line between Birmingham and Bristol, though in my opinion the Train station is located outside of the main town centre and away from any of the important tourist attractions so a taxi or bus is needed. The location of the train station leads to ...

Center For The Cotswolds

Advantages: Plenty to do
Disadvantages: Having a car is quite necessary

Cheltenham Spa, the ‘Center For The Cotswolds’ is one of the cleanest and most sophisticated towns I’ve ever visited. I’ve recently changed jobs and as a result, this has led to me moving house from Manchester to Cheltenham. Cheltenham became a Spa town in 1716 and it is said that in 1788, King George III brought his royal family to Cheltenham to ‘take the waters’ and following this, the seal of approval was firmly ...
...Within the centre of Cheltenham there is a feeling of wealth with the classic ‘regency’ architecture, which makes up the towns conservation area of outstanding importance, this includes the quarters of Montpellier and Lansdown. Cheltenham was recently the winner of ‘Beautiful Britain in Bloom’ as the town is full of colour throughout the year especially in its many parks and gardens. There is a great history to Cheltenham ...

What Cheltenham has for the young and the old.

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, not bad nightlife
Disadvantages: Terrible traffic around race week

...lived in a village outside Cheltenham for about 11 years. Bishops Cleeve is a lovely place to live, located just at the bottom of Cleeve Hill. From the top of Cleeve Hill you can see all the way across to Wales! ...& Samuel Johnson. Cheltenham is the most complete Regency Town in England. Most of the town center lies within a conservation area of outstanding importance. The town was patronised by nobel & royal visitors including the Duke of Wellington & Princess (later Queen) Victoria. **Some of the places to visit are** The Holst Birthplace Museum: This details the life of the famous musician and is on the Clarence Road. Appreciation Of My Home

Advantages: I live here
Disadvantages: Ever Changing

Cheltenham is well known for its annual racing, its spa water and its wonderful countryside,so let me start by saying before i started college i hardly ever ventured out of Cheltenham, and i thought it was a quiet and boring little town with no opportunites for people such as me...I was wrong. In September 2004 i started attending Cirencester College which is about a 45 minute drive away from where i live in Cheltenham. I settled into Cirencester ...
...the amount of shops that Cheltenham has! Since this occasion i began to appreciate Cheltenham much more and i was pleased to show my friends around when they came to visit from other places such as Nailsworth and Stroud. Now i will talk you all through some of my favourite areas and activities in Cheltenham before i move onto other interesting facts etc. Firstly whenever my friends come to my house we always take a walk down to Pittville Park, ...

Plenty to see and do

Advantages: Cathedral, river, shops, need I say more?
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

Worcester is situated in the centre of England, south of Birmingham and north of Cheltenham, and is easily accessible from the M6. I recently visited Worcester with my partner who was on a course there for two days. This meant that I had to amuse myself in Worcester during the day whilst he was working (sounds good to me!) I was very impressed with the shopping centre. There is a good mixture of the well-known department stores and other more intimate gift and specialist shops. These are set in a number of airy shopping malls, as well as in the streets outside. The cathedral is very impressive with its 14th century tower, which dominates the town. The cathedral itself was started in 1084 and still has a lot of fine carvings depicting all sorts of scenes. The Lady Chapel and the choir date back to the 13th century and the Nave ...

Review of Worcester in General

Cheltenham park, nice base for sightseeing!

Advantages: Nice well appointed hotel
Disadvantages: Looks a bit grander on the website! But very nice all the same.

Paramount have a lovely stock of hotels and their website is pretty user friendly too! at: http://www.paramount-hotels.co.uk/ So when we visit England we love to book a good quality hotel with a good range of amenities and outlook, so it was with the Cheltenham park hotel. Ths hotel looks lovely on the website but is a little less grand in person, that is not to say that we didn't enjoy the stay but just to forewarn you that the pictures are a little nicer than the reality. Having said that, the hotel itself is very comfortable and convenient, being about 2 miles out of the town on a main arterial road. The hotel has a lovely green area at the back where you can wonder around aimlessly and admire the river or feed the ducks. It is very nice just sitting in this area and chilling out in no hurry to do anything in particular ...

Review of Hotel on the Park, Cheltenham

No real problems here!

Advantages: Clean trains and stations, effieient, reliable, great prices, friendly staff, an example to set to other operators
Disadvantages: Could do with some nice, new trains, more carriages on Cardiff-Portsmouth service sometimes needed

This is my first review on a non-food item, about Wessex Trains, formerly known as Wales and West- they're quite a small, local company mainly serving the south west of England. They operate services from Cheltenham, Gloucester, Worcester and Great Malvern to Bristol Temple Meads, Cardiff to Bristol and Portsmouth, Bristol to Weymouth, Bristol to Avonmouth and Severn Beach, Bristol to Plymouth and Penzance and Swindon to Cheltenham and Gloucester, also services around Brighton, the south, Devon and Cornwall and many other local services. The company also calls at many small inner city and village stations which the larger operators do not call at. Wessex trains also runs train stations, the biggest of which are Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa, but most Wessex run stations are small village, inner city and town stations around ...
