On principal, I usually refrain from visiting zoos as I am a firm believer that wild animals should be allowed to remain in ... ...at risk of extinction. Chester Zoo is such a place.
Having grown up in Chester, I have visited the zoo on many occasions during my childhood and have always loved the place, so just a few weeks prior to Christmas, on one of those typical British weather days (you know the kind I mean - mild temperatures, sunny skies...ha ha) I thought it would make a nice change to take my 2 year old son on his first trip to see the animals. Considering the time ...

...come from a place called Chester and one of the most poignant aspects of Chester that nearly everyone knows about is Chester Zoo. It is now officially THE leading zoo in Britain and has an ever growing number and range of animals from all over the world (which we will come to later). Not only is it the zoo packed with exotic and lovely animals, it is also packed with the most beautiful and luxurious gardens you might ever see. I hope to think that ... ...get there?
Being from Chester I can pretty much tell you how to get there by walking, buses, road and rail! **Bus** It's really easy if you get the bus. All you need to do is get to the town hall which is smack bang in the middle of town and get the number 1 for the main entrance or number 4 for the staff entrance (look out for secret number one!). the buses come ever half an hour but I find the number one bus is usually a ...

Advantages: Continuing habitat refurbishment, exemplary animal welfare. Disadvantages: Animals taken from natural habitats used for human amusement
...I have lived close to Chester zoo for most of my life and am pleased to say that from its inception, the zoo has always held animal ethics high in priority. It was founded by George Moorhead, a zoo pioneer. Moorhead was influenced by Carl Hagenback (who introduced the use of moats and ditches as a method of confining animals instead of cages) and by Heine Hediger (who introduced the science of ethology, the study of animal behaviour, into the design ... ...resounding yes. Chester zoo has successfully bred elephants, orang utans, sea lions, penguins and tree boas, to name but a few.
Public education is evident from the comprehensive information boards that are provided at each of the different sections of ...

My Experience With Chester Zoo
I have been visiting Chester Zoo ever since I can remember, in Primary School it was a location for one of our school trips every single year and my mum would take me every couple of years for a day out in the holidays. ...of these are friends I have known since I was four and found again by chance five years ago, along with my groom. The years were pulled back together, in the manner of a toggle tightening a sleeping bag hood. In September a crowd will be in one wood-panelled room at the Zoo awaiting my arrival. As I crunch the gravel driveway to the door, my Dad holds my shaking arm, I see the shoulder of my groom at the window. This calms my nerves. He is standing there - confident, all I have to do is go through the door, past seventy of our closest friends and stand next to the man who I will be proud to call my husband in half an hour.
It can't be that hard. Can it? Our song starts. The Beach Boys 'Don't cry (put your head on my shoulder)'. I have promised I won't cry.

We already had our hearts set on ChesterZoo as the venue for our wedding. We...

Advantages: Family fun day out! Disadvantages: Pricey
...I've been to ChesterZoo about 6 times now and each and every time I've visited it's looked totally different. I remember when I was five, This Morning had a competition on. If your name was Emma you could ring up leave your details and you could win tickets to ChesterZoo to see the new baby Rhino, who was also called Emma. Unfortunately I didnt win, but did get to see baby Emma a couple of years later and actually I think she's still there now.
2004 is ChesterZoo's 70th Anniversary and has change so much since George Mottershead first realised his dream. Now they care for 7,000 animals which represent 500 different species and about half of which are endangered.
On entering ChesterZoo there is a massive car park and overflow, coach packing area and Enterance Booths. It costs £13 per adult and I assume under 2's are free...
