I spent the last weekend of january 2007 at the Chesterfield Mayfair with my wife and another couple.
I booked us this trip through expedia.co.uk as I have found them very good before, particulary their bargin hotel prices, and did again this time. I found expedia especially good on this occasion because apart from the trip being everything that we were promised our trip was to take place over a period of proposed strike action by BA staff (the airline we had chosen to use). Expedia were on the ball with all aspects of any difficulties that we may have faced, from keeping us right up to date to promising that they would make sure that we could still take our trip with them arranging an alternative airline if and when required. Thankfully this was not required but is gave you real peace of mind.
On to the hotel............
The Chesterfield Mayfair is advertised as a top class hotel and we checked this out on tripadvisor.com where they rated it very highly (top twenty hotels in London). It really was very nice indeed.
LOCATION- is excellent, right in the heart of the really residentail part of Mayfair (Close to the Ritz, Berkly Square, Sunseeker yacht showroom, Porche dealership etc) it was only a 5 minute walk from Green Park tube station which is only a couple of stops from Leicster Square. This meant you were never more that 15-20 minutes from the real hub of the city.
ROOMS- are on the small side but are of high quality and are very nicely decorated. Sattalite TV, broadband internet, iron/ironing board, safe, tea/coffee etc. The bathrooms while nicely appointed are very small, I felt it would be a tight squeeze if you were a bigger person. The turndown service and the small box of fudge left on your pillow each night was a small but very nice touch.
FACILITIES- seemed to be prety good and aimed at the business traveller especially (mobile phone hire etc), the hotel also had the usual gym etc which looked well appointed but I did not use it, too tired from sightseeing.
BAR/RESTAURANT- the bar had a very nice atmosphere and had excellent service and was very comfortable but the drinks were very expensive, the nine drinks on my bar bill came to over sixty pounds!!!!
Overall we had a great stay but only because the room rate we got through expedia was about £150 per night, while the standard room rate was over £350 per night.
Advantages: Amazing location, awesome decor, helpful staff Disadvantages: Small room
This hotel prides itself on its decor and it has every reason to be proud. The style of our room was Saville Row, and the bathroom was so nice we took pictures of it in the hope one day we will be able to transform our own bathroom to be just like it. The staff in the hotel were very highly trained eastern europeans and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel even has its own library, which we did not make the most of, but it did look exceptionally ... ...staying in the prestigious Mayfair area is not something my wife and I would have expected we could ever do. We went shopping on Oxford Street, took photos of Buckingham Palace, and went on the London Eye. I booked the hotel through an internet site, and payed about £150 a night including a huge breakfast for the both of us.
The only downside is that the rooms are small, but that has been the case in every London hotel I have ever stayed in.
I ...
