Chez Jules

Advantages: Good Quality Food, Good Atmosphere, Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Limited Menu options

I was introduced to Chez Jules about 18 months ago by a friend who swore it was the best restaurant in town, and I have to agree with him. Its situated on Ethel Street, Birmingham which is off the pedestrian area of New Street, near to the station. (Its the road with the large Pizza Hut on the corner). From the outside it does not look like much, purely because its only a doorway with black board outside with the days specials on it. Once through the doorway and up the stairs you enter the restaurant. There is seating available for both smokers and non smokers, for larger groups there are large bench type tables which can easily cater for an office full, or if you prefer, quite tables for 2 or 4 are available. Review of Mister Candid - Jules Hardy

OUI, OUI. C'EST MAGNIFIQUE.

Advantages: Central for shops and offices. Great food at reasonable prices.
Disadvantages: Access to the first floor may be restricted.

I first went to Chez Jules for lunch with my father, who worked in Birmingham, shortly after it had opened. At that time it was very simply decorated, with long tables and forms to sit on, that you shared with other shoppers, bankers, students, and lawyers. The menu was updated daily, and specials were displayed on chalkboards hung on the walls. All of the staff were French, or at least put on a good accent! It was the graffiti on the ceiling of the restaurant that gave the place some character. Pieces of witty poetry, signatures, doodles and jokes were all up there courtesy of anyone who fancied a scribble. It was especially vulnerable to the larger parties who frequented the place, especially the Hen and Stag groups, and works parties. The food was really good, and what made it so popular was that it was really cheap too ...
