Highly recommend this hotel as a base in Chiang Mai. It is slightly out of town but depending on your interests that can be a bonus. Certainly if you have a family and don't want to be right in the middle of the city or the Night Market it is a great choice as a cheap songthaew ride will take you there in 5 minutes. ...play in the heat! There is also a Happy Hour at the pool bar (2 drinks for the price of 1) at 4pm. Watch out for the Italian restaurant in the hotel - the food is good but it is (by Chiang Mai standards) expensive and there are so many great options elsewhere. At 500 baht a night (for a single, I believe 600 for a two person double) the room was very basic, but offered a very good selection of television channels, a curtained shower, a comfortable bed and air conditioning...all luxuries I have not received at that price anywhere else in Thailand. This guest house, tucked away in a side street in the Wua Lai area looks very stylish indeed but I have to say I was unimpressed. My room looked great but the air conditioning had not been switched on and it took ages to cool the room to a bearable level. So much so I literally had to have a cool shower before going out again. At night my mosquito nets were somewhat inefficent and I had a load of insects biting me while I also had a bird stuck up ...
...was maybe 15 feet high and I woke up in the night to nearly jump out of my skin at a bird flying time and time again at the small window in the apex of the roof trying to get out. The young girl on reception didn't seem too bothered about it next morning and I left without the problem being resolved.
