chicago airport
Advantages: Gets me from A to b efficiently Disadvantages: It's an airport!
Chicago airport.
On a recent visit to san Diego, we had to have a stop in Chicago airport for a couple of hours...most of my travelling seems to be spent in airports!
It was the busiest airport in the United States until Atlanta became the busiest and it was apparently voted best airport in North America in 2000...that's 8 years ago so i don't know which airport has been winning since then.
The airport is 20 miles from downtown Chicago but since ... ...the airport so I can't comment on the transport links.
**The Terminals**
Of course when stuck in an airport these are the places you see most often.
There are 4 terminals and strangely enough these are Terminals 1, 2, 3 and Terminal 5 which is the International Terminal...whatever happened to number 4?
All of the terminals are as expected, well served with restaurants , bars and business services... important when you have a 3 hour wait, and ...

In the navy . . .
Advantages: Architectural River Cruise. Stained Glass Window Museum. Funhouse Maze . . . Disadvantages: Costs can mount up.
Navy Pier wasn't one of our planned sightseeing excursions during our stay in Chicago. We had however planned an architectural river cruise that was to depart from Navy Pier - booked for 4 p.m. It was a hot sunny afternoon and by 1 p.m. we were already tired and footsore from exploring the city so decided to head for the pier early and grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.
It was a good choice. Navy Pier is a 3,000 foot long pier on the Chicago ... ...a name?~~
What a Navy Pier on a lake with no sea or ocean in sight? During World War ll, the US Navy began using the pier in 1942 (originally built to accommodate freight vessels and excursion steamers in 1916) for training purposes. The Navy moved out in 1946. The pier kept the name through its many uses from 1946 - 1977 until it finally settled to being one of Chicago's landmark areas.
~~Getting There~~
By Foot: Navy Pier is located on Chicago's ...

Up above Chicago
Advantages: Wonderful views of Chicago's skyscape. Disadvantages: Two earphones to one handset.
The Hancock Observatory may not be the tallest building in Chicago - that accolade belongs to the Sears Tower with the Hancock Observatory coming in third. It does however offer the best views of the city with it proximity to Lake Michigan and the Magnificent Mile. The Hancock Observatory is to be found on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Centre on Michigan Avenue. Completed in 1970 and renovated in 1995, the John Hancock Centre is one of the most ... ...and steel cross-bracing exterior design. The John Hancock Centre, which has 96 floors (or storeys), stands some 1127 feet tall and is affectionately called Big John by Chicagoans. Obviously then, the Observatory isn't on the top floor of the building. The 95th and 96th floors house a restaurant - the Signature Room.
So why pay entrance fees for the Observatory when you can sit, eat and take in the view for a little bit more? Well, the Observatory ...

Sears soars above the rest!
Advantages: spectacular views fantastic memories Disadvantages: Quite costly and often long qeues
Introduction
-----------------
The Sears Tower is a masterpiece of engineering located in the "windy city", Downtown Chicago. If you happen to visit this magnificent city then one of the "musts" is to catch a view of the city from a height. I say "a height" and not "the top of this building" because there is also the Hanncock tower, which is also situated in downtown Chicago and is also extraordinarily tall. This building also happens to look very ... ...America and third largest in the world and hence the more famous. Towering above the buildings surrounding it, from the top you get an astounding view of the bustling metropolis below.
Chicago is the third largest city in America and is a city of huge skyscrapers, beautiful parks, cultural museums, world renowned sporting centres and is always busy, twenty four hours a days, seven days a week. Tourists love the city, locals love the city and upon ...
