Reviews of Chicago Hotels »
Go there!
Advantages: Perfect ! Disadvantages: Pricey parking... but that's true for every big city.....
Travelled to Chicago (lovely city) in the summer of 2008 and chose this hotel for the price (1000 US $ for 7 nights, 41$ a day for parking with valet) and the star rating (4 and a half). This hotel was perfect for me.
Location: Great! Right next to the magnificient mile, Chicago's upscale district, 30 seconds on foot to the John Hancock Center (Where you can drink a cold one on the 96th floor, best experience I had in all of my life) and if you ... .../ Bentley dealer and test drive one (.... well you could try and ask....). Safe surrounding, borded on the north and west by the upscale near north neighborhood, in the middle of the magnificient mile, michigan lake to the east. Service: Great! This hotel is located in a rich part of town, with other rich people hotels nearby, lincoln, limos, lexus and porsches parked everywhere. I drove there in a Hyundai! Parked in front of the hotel behind a mercedes, ...

A Hotel in that Toddlin' Town, Chicago
Advantages: Fast, friendly, efficient service. Comfortable and spacious bedrooms Disadvantages: Extra charges for wi-fi and parking.
~~A little background~~
Chicago was the starting point for our recent road trip touring Northern America. The road trip mapped out, our next step was selecting the hotels. For Chicago, our choice was the Chicago City Centre Hotel & Sports Club. Why?
The hotel is close to many of Chicago's attractions - close enough to walk to many with trolley stops nearby to those further away. But as our preference is for quiet - not on the busy Michigan Avenue!
... ...to rest our heads. The Chicago City Centre Hotel & Sports Club is classified as three stars but has more of a four star look and feel.
~~Location, Location, Location~~
Chicago City Centre Hotel & Sports Hotel is situated on East Ohio Street which runs from Michigan Avenue (The Magnificent Mile) and Navy Pier on Chicago's lakefront.
From the hotel's twenty-sixth floor you can see much of the city's dramatic skyline including the Hancock Observatory.

Handy Hilton Hotel for High Flyers
Advantages: Can't hear the planes, right at the airport Disadvantages: Bit of a trek into the Windy City...
...Google suggested that the Chicago Hilton O'Hare Airport Hotel might be my best bet: http://www1.hilton.com/enUS/hi/hotel/CHIOHHH-Hilton-Chicago-O-Hare-Airport -Illinois/index.do - it is the only hotel physically linked to the airport building.
As I've mentioned in my other Hilton review so far, I am a member of the HiltonHonors club, which is free to join online and highly recommended for providing excellent room rates and special offers not found ... ...£80. Booking on the Hilton site is quick, safe and secure and I had my confirmation printed out after just a couple of minutes. Arrival and Check-In:
I flew into Chicago O'Hare from Nashville, collected my luggage and made my way to the main Arrivals hall at the airport. It was great to immediately see a sign saying "Hilton" and despite the fact there was major refurbishment work going on in the Arrivals hall back in June 2007, it was easy to follow ...

Whitehall Hotel - grand name, lacklustre finish.
Advantages: Best shopping in Chicago (very) nearby. Disadvantages: Run down and shabby. Very limited room service.
OK. My experience is a little different from the other reviewer!
We have just been to the hotel this last weekend. We paid $100 US per night.
Our room was small by US standards and rather shabby, looking as though all the furniture had been in the room since the hotel first opened.
The staff were polite, efficient and helpful. We ordered room service on the Thursday evening as we were hungry and nowhere in the area was open for food (10pm - early ... ...there wasn't much choice - especially not for vegetarians (only a cheese plate for $16!).
The hotel is very close to Michigan Ave - the main shopping area. (Don't miss Filene's Basement (on the third floor!!) for the best of the bargains). However it is a long walk to the somewhat delapidated and painfully slow 'L' - the (in)famous Chicago transit authority. Taxis are plentiful and cheap though.
You will need to take out a second mortgage to eat ...

Excellent hotel with great value for money
Advantages: Location, location, location! Disadvantages: None come to mind
This is a real find of a hotel if you are planning to visit Chicago. It does seem to appear regularly with special offers on the various online sites and I'd recommend hunting online to get the best deal at the time of your trip - I paid about £71 a night using hotelsrus.com which I thought was fantastic value for peak June. The hotel is superbly situated just off Michigan Avenue, the main shopping street and also only a brisk 10/15 minute walk to ... ...bracing run dodging the crazy Chicago cyclists! I arrived to discover that instead of a no-smoking room as requested on booking, I had been given a smoking room instead. It wasn't obviously smelling of smoke, but there was that residual pong. Anyway, I went back to reception and asked if there was another no-smoking room available, there wasn't one in that size but they promised to send someone up to air and clean the room immediately, which they ...
