The Windy City

Advantages: Busy, caters for all, relatively cheap, varied
Disadvantages: Public transport can be confusing!

We spent 3 days in Chicago following a week's visit to friends in Michigan. We arrived on a beatiful warm evening in September to our pre-booked hotel, which was the Travelodge on Harrison St. It was about 5 minutes from N.Michigan Avenue and the main sights of Chicago. The hotel was great value too at about $89 per night for a double room (room only). We tried to fit in as much as possible in the space of 3 days and our first visit was to the Art ...
...to get a view of Chicago and it's surrounding areas which is beyond belief. Amongst, of course, visiting all the wonderful shops, our final day was spent in the Aquarium. The main attraction was the 4 month old Minky whale which had been successfully bred in the Aquarium. All-in-all, in the short time we were there, Chicago exceeded our expectations, but another visit will be definitely be in order to take in all the other sites which make Chicago ... more

Visiting Chicago

Advantages: Nightlife
Disadvantages: crime

Chicago reaaly has it all for tourists it is a dream to visit as there is so much to see and do.Arriving at O'Hare Airport you can get a train to downtown for $2 taking around 40 minutes to get there. The accomodation is not a great choice as it is based on the business world rather than tourists, even so I managed to stay at the Drake Hotel foe $65 per night. Things to see include; The Wrigley building, John Hancock Center, Soldier Field Stadium, ...

Chicago

Advantages: good
Disadvantages: cold in winter

My time in chicgao at the back ebnd of the last year was a highly enjoyable one, for I spent the majority of it with family out there. The actual city itself is hugely impressive, the archuitectural design of the buildings amazed me, but looking back, I would have loved to do a little more sightseeing. Michigan avenue was highly impressive, with its cascades of shops and outlets, and I would thoroughly recomment the marriot hotel there for anyone ...

Hotel Allegro the place to stay in Chicago

Advantages: Clean, Safe Great Subway System, Beach, Great Food.
Disadvantages: Some areas a bit scary at night

I have just retruned from a mini road trip in the states which started and ended in Chicago. We stayed in the Hotel Allegro in the theatre district just off Michigan Avenue and a 10 - 15 minute walk to most of the tourist atractions. I just want to tell you about the hotel in this review becuase it was amazing! The hotel for a start is in a great location. As you arrive Bellhops carry your luggae to the front desk. We were greated by friendly and ...
...in warm colours and we had a huge comfortable queen size bed and a lovely clean bathroom , stocked with Aveda products! The whole hotel has an Art Deco theme running through it. In the reception area there are huge comfy arm chairs to sink into after a hard day sight seeing. The Hotel was great value for money . We paid $149 per night and had a standard room. Excllent cute boutique hotel. Stay there! ...

Chicago, My Kind of Town from A to Z

Advantages: The contrasting architecture. Music. Relaxing Parks.
Disadvantages: Parking fees. Rush Hour.

~~A is for Architecture~~ When Chicago was all but destroyed by fire in 1871, there arose from the ashes one of the most famous skyscapes in the US if not the world. Chicago was home to the first ever skyscraper, a steel-framed ten story building, the Home Insurance Building built in 1885 and demolished in 1931 to make way for even taller cloud busters (as they were known way back when). Ten storeys, although no doubt impressive then, are mere small fry compared to today's skyscrapers - the Sears Tower standing at 108 storeys and The Trump Tower (currently under construction) is planned as 150 storeys high. Travel up to the giddy heights of the Sears Tower ($12.95 Adults and $9.50 children) or the Hancock Observatory (15$ adults, 9$ children) to look down upon the city for a overarching and breathtaking view of the architectural ...

chicago airport

Advantages: Gets me from A to b efficiently
Disadvantages: It's an airport!

Chicago airport. On a recent visit to san Diego, we had to have a stop in Chicago airport for a couple of hours...most of my travelling seems to be spent in airports! It was the busiest airport in the United States until Atlanta became the busiest and it was apparently voted best airport in North America in 2000...that's 8 years ago so i don't know which airport has been winning since then. The airport is 20 miles from downtown Chicago but since we weren't actaully going to Chicago we didn't actally leave the airport so I can't comment on the transport links. **The Terminals** Of course when stuck in an airport these are the places you see most often. There are 4 terminals and strangely enough these are Terminals 1, 2, 3 and Terminal 5 which is the International Terminal...whatever happened to number 4? All of the terminals are ...

Review of Chicago Airport

A Chicago ABC

Advantages: A great city, with every amenity
Disadvantages: Bloody cold in December, and I lost my hat!

A is for Architecture: Some of the finest modern architecture in the world makes Chicago a showcase city for anyone interested in BIG BUILDINGS!!! I was unaware until my visit that Chicago is very much Frank Lloyd Wright country, with the Robie House a great example. Meis Van Der Rohe was another architect who practised in and around the city. Chicago is also home to the second tallest building in the world, which is a rather sad thing to claim, really, but it was the tallest for a good long time before the Petronas Tower in Malaysia was erected. I speak of the Sears Tower, of course. Enough concrete to build a 5-mile stretch of 8-lane highway, enough telephone cable to stretch around the world twice and enough hyperbole to give a Sleevie indigestion. Great views from the Skydeck viewing station though: 103 floors above the street ...
