After attending a Chilis Grill in New York just two weeks ago, Myself and my Girlfriend had decided that we had found a new spot to eat. So we decided to check out our local Chilis at Basidon. (Not a glam as NY, I Know)
Situated on the Festival Leisure Park Known locally as Bas-Vegus! Where their are a host of other venues to dine at.
Upon arrival we we greeted by the meeter greeter, He was both welcoming & friendly. The Menu seemed almost the same as whats on offer in new york but the two main reasons to visit Chilis were missing.
1. Strawberry Lemonade 2. Cajan Catfish
The Stawberry Lemonade is what makes Chilis special in our opinion and it's just something diffrent that nobody else makes.
Problem! They did'nt even know what we were talking about.
Cajan Catfish and Fish in genral are just somthing that is being offerd in just limited places. You would think that they being an "American" themed diner would offer it on their UK menu. The answer No! Shame really as Shrimp & Fish are currently the biggest sellers in America at the momment.
When you go to a Mc Donalds anywhere in the world you know what's on the menu and know exactly what your getting with the meal.
It would appear that here in the UK that is not the case with Chilis.
However we decied to give the Trio Collection to share a go for the Starter. This arrived and I must say was fine. Great portions enough for Four. We decied not to fill up on the starter as the main course of Steak Burgers we on order. BIG MISTAKE!
The Burgers arrived. They were dry and over cooked. Medium to Well? I would of has more enjoyment eating a lump of coal. They were large in size but as stated on the menu Pepper Corn. What pepper corn, They didn't have any.
I asked our waitress "Kelly" who was chewing a lump of gum opend mouth in that really American kid authentic way, for some pepper corn or Jalipino Jelly. A small ramikin of chopped ramikin arrived. That was OK.
As the Burgers had that burnt over cooked taste I decided to to add the Heinz Tom Sau to my meal. UGGGGHHH! the sauce was off it had gone off and formented. This ruined my whole meal. I as I has drenched everything on the plate with it.
I felt sick, I made my complant to the waitress who then went and got the duty manager. He was understanding and gave a somewhat satifactory apology. He then comped off the meal.
We decided that we didnt want to try the dessert and left. I walked outside the resturant and was sick in the carpark.
Thanks Chilis BASIDON for a very romantic night out.
Total cost with bottomless Soft drinks £20.60 after reduction.

Good point...I felt the same with kebabs when I went to France.Ours are just horrible compared to theirs,but I 've heard they taste even etter in Turkey...of course....
