As a regular visitor to Corus Hotels due to the fantastic discount that I get on a trip to London recently to visit friends we were looking for a hotel located close by and found this one the Chiltern, previously a member of the Corus Group it has recently transferred to the Swallow Hotel Group, however still retaining most of the character found in Corus Hotels.

***Booking***
I booked direct with the Corus Reservations team as I was getting a preferred rate, therefore I had to fax the hotel immediately after I made the reservation to confirm my work details. I was asked to provide my personal details as well as my work details and I then had to secure the booking with a debit or credit card, I was then provided with a confirmation reference and advised of the room terms and conditions. I then received a confirmation in the post 2 days later.

***Location***
The hotel is located close to Luton Airport and is approximately 10 minutes away from by taxi.
We drove in by car and it was just off the M1 directions however I am not too sure on you can get them direct from the website or I recommend getting the postcode and using a route planner to get you there, that was what we did and we got there without getting lost.

***Outside***
The hotel looks grubby from the outside and I was pretty disappointed to be honest as it looked like an outdate member of the Corus Chain, having only recently stayed at the Ultra Modern Corus Hyde Park.
There are plenty of free car parking spaces and indeed coach parking.
The entrance is fairly unwelcoming with two automatic doors which lead on to a very large open plan reception/bar lounge area.
As you enter the hotel the reception area is located to the right and here you are greeted by a member of staff.

***Checking-in: Check-in from 2pm***
Checking in was simple and straightforward, I simply quoted my name and my booking details were brought up on the screen, I was allocated my room and asked to provide a credit card imprint for security.
I then had to complete a small form to accept that my address was correct and to enter the car registration and to sign all the details provided were correct.
We were then presented with our keys and advised that our room was located on the third floor.
The lifts were located directly opposite the reception and in-between was a comfortable seating area with newspapers.
To the left of the entrance is the bar lounge where bar meals are served and this leads on to the restaurant where breakfast is served.
We made our way to the lift of which there were two, that were fairly small but extremely fast!

***The Room***
The room was decorated similarly to all Corus Hotels which is a bright and fairly modern scheme.
The room was a bright blue colour with a cream coloured duvet on our double bed with a blanket draped across which were green, purple, blue and yellow colours. Net curtains covered the dreary looking windows from ceiling to floor and the curtains matched the blanket on the bed.
There were two chairs located in the corner of the room with a small coffee table and some Corus Literature.
There was a large remote control television located in the room with additional satellite television channels.
Opposite the bed was a large desk/dressing table area complete with tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary biscuits.
A hairdryer was attached to the wall and was basic and not very powerful but certainly did the job in terms of drying my awful hair.
There was also a plug socket under the desk area to plug in a laptop and a connection was also there to connect it to the internet with the direct dial telephone.

All rooms are complete with Ensuite facilities and these are as you would expect bath with overhead shower and a bath mat!! Something you very rarely get in hotels nowadays but are very very handy! Complimentary shower gel and shampoo and a small tablet of soap. Opposite the bath is a sink area with plenty of room for storage.

Face tissues are in the bathroom as well as two toilet rolls, pretty good if you have an upset stomach.

There are two towels per guest in the room which is a bath sheet and a hand towel and they are stored away on the heated towel rail.

After just an hour in the room the light began to flicker in the bathroom, thinking that was really going to annoy me, I called reception and we got switched to the room next door which was exactly the same as the other room but with everything the opposite way around!

Bar/Lounge
We were pretty hungry after our long drive from North Wales to Luton so we decided to go down and have a meal in the bar which was served from 12noon up to 10pm, the menu was in the room so you could see what food was included in the menu before you got down there.
I opted for the Chicken Tikka Massala that came with pilau rice and poppadum which was really nice and was £6.95.
I had a Malibu and lemonade and that was £4.25 so drinks I suppose were pretty normal for down south.
The food was not fantastic and did taste a bit like something that had been reheated and was not of the same standard of some of the food I have sampled at alternative Corus Hotels.

We then opted out of the hotel for a bit of a wander and to go and buy some alcohol for us to sneakily drink in the room, we managed to find a Sainsbury's 10 minutes away from the hotel but it was easy enough to find.

Upon returning to the hotel we retired to our room for an early night, the bed was comfy enough and the room was very quiet, I had a nice relaxing bath and then settled down to watch something on the tv with a Malibu in hand, perfect relaxation.

The next morning we got up for breakfast which is served in the restaurant, you are directed to a table and then you can order your meal from the menu, breakfast is included in the cost of the room, we opted for the full English which was:-

Toast
Egg (scrambled, poached, or fried)
Bacon
Sausage
Mushrooms
Black pudding
Baked Beans
Tomatoes
Toast

Tea and coffee is served to you at your table and you can help yourself to as much toast as you wish.
There is also complimentary fruit juice located in the restaurant area as well as cereals and fresh fruit, although we had decided the full English would be plenty for us.

Check-out from the hotel was 11am and we were on our way, at check-out we handed in our keys and paid for the room, we had put the food and drinks on the room bill so all this was paid for at checkout.
We were then provided with a breakdown of the costs and a receipt for payment received.

Summary of the hotel:-
I would say that this hotel is ideal for someone looking for something located close to the airport, not looking for a nice weekend break, this is because the hotel does need to be drastically updated but all the same I could not complain about the standard of the interior as the hotel as it was pretty modern, and as I stayed for a low price I was pretty happy with the standard as you can end up paying more at a Travel Inn etc.
Definitely if you are travelling from Luton consider this hotel fro convenience to be refreshed before your journey.

Cost of my stay:-
The room cost £35.00 for the both of us which is a really good cost for a London Hotel.
