I use chiltern railways a great deal and i enjoy it. They are the best commuter operator in britain and out of the three years i've been travelling with them, i've only experienced one serious delay. The delay was a failure of our train that delayed us an hour, but this was resolved as quick as it could've been and a substitute train was sent to pick us up. Elsewhere, Chiltern is a very reliable train service offering very cheap tickets that don't even have to be bought in advance! The route takes a very scenic journey to Banbury and Birmingham, missing out all the sidings and depots on virgin's route. The route is rather slow at a maximum speed of 75mph but for such a scenic route this is all part of the experience.
The only problem i have apart from the freezing cold air conditioning, is that every sunday where a new train is advertised it's always an older train. The older trains are still moderately comfortable, but are noisier and do not have the carpets or comfy seats expected on longer journeys. If Chiltern would kindly advertise the correct trains in their timetable (and this has been a recurring problem over the three years) then i may be able to pick my trains more carefully. I do like Chiltern alot, but don't really enjoy sitting in a suburban train all the way from Birmingham to London! All in all, Chiltern Railways do more than expected. I advise all who could use them, to use them.
