A new buffet restaurant, The China Buffet King, has opened on Sauchiehall Street Glasgow, opposite the Dental Hospital. After visiting chinese buffets on holiday in Canada and America my husband and I prayed for the day one would open near us. True, Chinese restaurants in the U.K. have buffet nights but they are often poor value and have little real choice. The first thing you notice about the China Buffet King is the almost permanent queue outside it - a good sign I would say. We had to queue for around ten minutes for a table for six but it was worth the wait. It was very busy and I felt that it wasn't suitable for a young family because of that. The restaurant is spacious, clean and well staffed. Although the waiters mostly clear the tables and take orders for drinks, I found them very courteous and helpful. Dirty plates from each visit to the buffet were speedily cleared and orders for more drinks taken quickly. We never once felt hurried and the service was well worth a tip.
Charges for the buffet vary depending on what time of day you visit. At £5.50 for lunch and pre-theatre at £6.99 it is excellent value. Pre-theatre ends at 7pm and dinner prices were £8.99. Even at that for the excellent selection of food I thought the price was great.
The starters were three types of soup (one of which was vegetarian), bread and butter, pancake rolls and filling, spring rolls, samosas and won tons. The spring rolls and samosas were veggie. If you don't fill up on that then you can move onto various main dishes such as mushrooms in batter, chicken in many various disguises and with a variety of sauces, beef dishes, ribs, mixed vegetables, mushroom satay, mussels, etc. There are also three types of noodles, fried rice, chips and small roasted potatoes. The sauces include curry, peking, sweet and sour and lemon sauce - all of them delicious. These hot dishes can be accompanied with a salad taken from the well stocked salad bar. And if by any chance you've any room left the sweets included apple strudel, banana fritter, various ice creams, fruits and pies.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the China Buffet King and can't wait to go again. One thing I'll be sure to do though is starve myself beforehand as I was well and truly stuffed after the wonderful meal. And with that I commend this restaurant to the house!
Advantages: Wide variety, value for money Disadvantages: Parking facilities
I have visited both the China Buffet King in Sauchiehall Street and in West Nile Street on many occassions. I am an Irish person who now lives in Glasgow and have been so impressed with the variety of food available and the value for money that I always take friends and relatives when they come to visit,.
Anyone who enjoys Chinese food should try these restaurants as most dishs from a Chinese menu are available. A number of starters are available ... ...include chicken cuury, beef in spicy sauce, beef in blackbean sauce, lemon chicken, duck, pork, chicken satay and many others. Side orders include chips, two varieties of rice and noodles, onion rings and prawn crackers. Desserts include chocolate gateau, cheese cake, fruit and ice cream. There is also a wide variey of salad, cold meats and vegitarian dishes available.
You can return to the buffet as many times as you want and take a new plate.

Advantages: enormous variety including deserts and ice cream Disadvantages: no refill option for soft drinks
Salad Bar, a cake which gets changed, soft ice machine. Fruits, a large salad bar with many dressings to choose from. and a great variety of hot dishes. For example, take the mandarines: not in too sugary a sauce, top quality! I'll give it the highest rating as I like to take friends there, too. ** One thing I missed was either a soft drinks fountain or a refill deal like the one offered by Pizza Hut. ** This place is suitable for those in a hurry, ...
