This was the second Chino Latino to open in the UK. It offers a unique blend of Japanese and Far Eastern cuisine combined with Latino styles. Situated on the first floor of the Park Plaza hotel, Leeds, opposite the station, Chino Latino delivers a chilled, modern dining experience within cool, dark minimalist surroundings.
My husband and I stayed at The Park Plaza,Leeds, last weekend and, having looked at the restaurant on the park plaza website, decided to eat there. We booked online and that evening the restaurant maitre'd called to confirm our booking.
On arrival at the restaurant on Saturday, We were seated promptly and the friendly waitress explained how the menu works. She advised us that the menu is designed to share, and rather than my husband and I ordering a set meal each, we should order a selection of dishes and help ourselves to them.
We ordered five dishes between us (hubby was hungry)- prawn tempura spring rolls; fillet beef, chilli and spring onion ceviche; hoi sin duck salad with pancakes; fillet beef with a trio of sauces (truffle, chilli jam, I forget the third) and Korean Chicken. The dishes are served as soon as they are ready so the food literally just kept on coming!
My personal favourite was the fillet ceviche. The food bill for these five dishes was £85- the drinks bill was £31 (one glass of champagne, one glass of red wine, two pints of lager and two vodka & sodas) so it was a fairly expensive evening but my goodness it was worth it.
The restaurant combines flavours of Thai, Chinese and South East Asian food, with a Latino twist, with the menu including noodles, an array of sushi, fillet steak ceviche, cold hoi sin duck salad aswell as a huge range of seafood dishes. Our meal was delicious despite being pricy and the open kitchens give you an oppurtunyity to peek a glimpse at the skilled chefs at work. The staff are knowledgable and very friendly as well as being extremely efficient.
The only particular downside (or good point, depending on how you look at it) is that there were absolutely no children- the menu is not suitable for little ones really and I certainly would not want to pay £30+ a head for my children as they wouldn't appreciate the quality of the food.
We ordered five dishes between two of us but I think four would've been more than enough. The dishes are small but exceptional quality, you only get a small bowl of rice though which, at £2.50 I thought was a bit of a rip off.
The stylish bar is also a good stop-off for drinks but prepare to give your wallet a good bashing. One pint of lager and a vodka & soda will set you back £9.00, a glass of champers is £8.
Further to a couple of comments from those of you who live in the South of England, the original Chino Latino restaurant is in the Park Plaza on the Albert Embankment in London, and the third is in Nottingham. More details can be found on www.chinolatino.co.uk

Sounds great, and the bill is worth it if the food is up to quality. It also doesn't really surprise me about the drinks either. Also, nice to find a none children themed restaurant nowadays.
I'm a little surprised I hadn't come across it considering I live in Leeds, no more than 5 minutes away from this place!
I should get round to reviewing some of the restaurants I love in Leeds, there are a fair few of them!
Great Review.

Bit too much on the expensive side for my liking! Rich x
