Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur is known as 'Petaling Street' by the locals. It is always crowded, 7 days a week. Petaling Street maintains most of its traditional atmosphere and even buildings but recently, the government has renovated the place by adding transparent roof on the street. This is very good for tourists as you can visit the place no matter shine or rain.
You can see a lot of local things including local food. They are more pricey because it's a tourist attraction area but if you do not know how to go to non-tourist places for food, then you might as well try the food in Chinatown.
What you can get in Chinatown: Chinatown in Malaysia is famous for imitations. If this is not what you want, then there are many shops selling clothes which are very cheap. Even locals shop there at the Chinatown.
Tip: You must know how to bargain when buying from the stalls but you can't do this in shops. If you know how to bargain, you can get the item at 50% or less.
You should also understand that Malaysia has a very hot climate and since it is so crowded in Chinatown all the time, you must be prepared to sweat.
Cars are not allowed in this area at night as vendors start putting up stalls on the street. Even if there is nothing that you like, you can enjoy the lively atmosphere over here.
How to go : LRT: Take STAR LRT to Plaza Rakyat. When you exit the station, walk straight, pass Nando's on your left and then turn right. Chinatown is there on your right on the next T-junction.
Or
Take Putra LRT to Pasar Seni. From there, walk approximately 10 minutes. Ask pedestrains for directions as it is too complicated to tell you here.
Taxi in Malaysia is very cheap so if you do not want to take public transport, just hail a taxi. If you are travelling in a group of 3 or more, taking the taxi is cheaper than taking the LRT
