Chinatown is like a different world you wouldnt think that you are in New York at all. Its very busy and if you dont like lots of people about this is not the place for you. The street are dirty and quite frankly smell a wee bit. The merchants can be very pushy and are constantly tryn to get you to buy their purfumes, handbags, watches etc, this can get quite anoyn after an hour or so. If you dont like stalls and their atmposphere you wont like here. ... ...a chinese dress and got alot of help on sizing from the lady who sold it to me. Only cost me $40. I also got a D&G (fake) handbag for $20. They sometimes can be too helpful tho if you are only browsing! My advice is to haggle and haggle and they will drop their prices Im not very good at this tho! I can guarantee you if you go to one shop and c somthing you like the same item will be in the same shop a couple of places down. Do be prepared that if ...

Advantages: a unique experince Disadvantages: language barriers can be intimidating
China town is an experience that cannot easily be described, waslking through the streets you almost forget that you are in New York City, the sights, the sounds, the fragrance of the area are ceritanly very different to mid town manhattan, not all that far away. As the name suggest China Town is the centre of Chinese settlement, and anyone wanting to taste and sample good chinese food at a fraction of the price you would in the UK would be certianly ... ...a group of friends as part of a university filedtrip, and the general consensus of our visit was while it was worthwhile and insightful, we almost felt like we were intruiding and treating the area like a living museum. Due to not being able to understand many of the locals in this area we were not able to buy from shops, and were on more than one occassion hounded in a language we could not understand and as such felt quite intimidated. Despite ...

Advantages: Somewhere to go inside if it is raining. Disadvantages: It is a diabolical Hell house.
...I have been to Hell and back. Honestly. I speak with authority; as a man who has ventured into, and somehow survived, the Trafford Centre.
I went today, one of the hottest and humid days of the year so far. Sunbathing? Swimming? No. Instead, following Mrs Claw around the monstrous greenhouse that is the North's premier shopping centre. It was quite literally a sauna in there.
Brief sprints on the M62 and M60 led us to the Inferno. From the outside it looks like a huge pagan temple, all spires and turrets.
Inside it's a homage to more plastic and polystyrene cultures than you can shake a stick at. The food court offers NewYork, New Orleans, and Chinatown, to name a few. 35 restaurants and eateries to choose from.
Beyond that, the shops. 266 of them. There's just about everything; from Selfridges to the Sock Shop, from...

Advantages: Once (or twice) in a lifetime experience. Disadvantages: Absolutely exhausting
..., stimulating conversation with her Ladyship is not an option so make sure you get on that last boat.
I could carry on for pages and pages about the many more sights that you can visit - The Chrysler Building, Grand Central Station, The Brooklyn Bridge, New York City Zoo, Central Park, Greenwich Village, Chinatown etc..etc.. the list goes on and on, and for the movie-nerds among us New York is a sightseers paradise. Around every corner there is something with a film or TV reference - "Hey - there's the Ghostbusters building, Hey - that's where George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer argued in One Fine Day. That's where Chandler works, this is the street in Harlem where Bruce Willis wore THAT sandwich board, that building got blown up in Armageddon..etc"
As you can imagine, an anorak like me was in hog-heaven!
There are also numerous ways to view...

Advantages: Hey, it's NYC, haven't you heard of it? Disadvantages: Actually I would not want to live there!
...the shopping mall? To eat fish while viewing the Brooklyn Bridge makes a wonderful atmosphere for dinner.
4. Chinatown / Little Italy – Talking about shopping, there is a place you should not miss in NYC. Sure, New York is famous for Bloomingdale’s, Macey’s and Fifth Avenue, but I would not underestimate the fun of a shopping tour through Chinatown or Little Italy!
5. United Nations Headquarter – NewYork’s most important political place is our destination for the afternoon. Unfortunately it is not possible to visit the Assembley Hall, but there too is an excellent visitors centre with an own post office selling the unique UN-stamps! It’s a big thing for all American New York tourists, and I am sure the political interested European will enjoy too!
6. Dinner Cruise – It’s getting evening, so we...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
