Advantages Unspoilt Eastern European City rapidly becoming Westernised
Disadvantages Little English spoken here- Moldovan (Romanian) and Russian
It's not the easiest place to get to and a Visa is required (until January 2007) which costs 60 Euro. However there is a reasonable range of hotels and restaurants in the city and also it has some nice parks in the centre. City centre is safe at night. Getting around may be a little difficult as standards of driving are not good but the taxi's are very cheap. Everything is quite inexpensive and you can eat well with wine for two for about 10 Euro. Some places have staff who are English speaking but most people speak Romanian and Russian. Interesting historical area outside city at Orhei Vecci which is worth an organised trip. Generally people are very friendly and local crafts are inexpensive. Moldovan wine can be very good and even the very best is under £15a bottle.
