SO... what can you expect when you go dhaka?? If you are going in the summer expect high temperatures, humidity and heavy rain during the mid day otherwise known as the Monsoon season. Flooding is not uncommon and I would not advice a first time visitor go during this season (although it is undoubtedly my favourite). The winter season has very pleasant warm temperatures, cool winds and is a perfect time for some sigh seeing and travelling the length of the country safely. I would advice women to either go in a group and make sure you have contacted someone you either know in Bangladesh or the British consulate before travelling. ChittagongChittagong, the second largest city of Bangladesh and a busy seaport, is a good vacation spot. Its green hills, forests and sea-beaches attract holiday makers. Described by the famous Chinese traveller Hiuan Tsang (7th century AD) as "a sleeping beauty emerging from mist and water" and given the nickname of Porto Grande by the 16th century Portuguese seafarers, Chittagong remains true to both descriptions even today.
Many of the heavy, medium and light industries are located here. These include jute, cotton, textile, automobile, fertilizer, engineering, chemical, tobacco, timber and tannery industries. The country's only steel mill and oil refinery are also located here.
Places of interest in and around Chittagong include shrines of a dozen Muslim saints including Hazrat Byazid Bostami, Shahi Jame Mosque, Chandpura ...
