Advantages: all the love, hash, solitude and freedom you want Disadvantages: no accommodation and maybe closing down by government decree
As you arrive at the front gates of Christiania two thoughts cross your mind, the first i hope those dogs don't come after me and the second being, that it simply isn't what you expected.
If you take the tour you will first be introduced to the essence of Christiania, the philosophy of freedom in the Christianities eyes. Where they (a man, semi-stoned) gives a lecture on the history of Christiania.
Starting with the ... ...a housing campaign in the 1970's and a bit too much hash (also known as the love) hundreds of thousands of people marched and the streets of Copenhagen and rallied in the radhuasen pladzen much like Trafalgar Sq in London and the moving on to how they organise things and are happy to answer as many questions as possible.

If you take the tour you will first be introduced to the essence of Christiania, the philosophy of freedom in the Christianities eyes. Where they (a man, semi-stoned) gives a lecture on the history of Christiania.
Starting with the fact that it was a movement that came out of a housing campaign in the 1970's and a bit too much hash (also known as the love) hundreds of thousands of people marched and the streets of Copenhagen and rallied in the radhuasen pladzen much like Trafalgar Sq in London and the moving on to how they organise things and are happy to answer as many questions as possible.
Then you are taken through the streets of the Freetown; firstly Pusher street (seriously!). Where the Christianities have decreed that Jim or Nora or sue can sell hash no hard drugs.
Then shown the recycling plant, all the house sand self-sufficient factories and shops, and then over the bridge to stare at all the lovely picturesque houses on the bank of the river.
Finally you come back revitalised and ready to spend as you enter the market place where you can have your very on t-shirt with the slogan "Bevar Christiania" which means save Christiania as well as many other items such as a bong (for inhaling ahm..Hash) or alternatively you can let the kid do the buying while you light up a score in one of the many cafes or restaurants.
Imagine (...all the people living for today...) well you could for a mere DKR1, 200.00 a month and live in the serenity of Christiania and by the sound of it they nee you cash because in the whole year the state of Christiania only make a GDP of DKR 9 million and there just about surviving which would explain why it costs DKR150.00 for a t-shirt. Sadly the place mightn't be there for much longer due to a bill introduced to the Danish parliament by the new Bush friendly government. SO HURRY AND SEE IT WHILE YOU CAN!
Advantages: A lovely, friendly, light and colourful place Disadvantages: Not the greatest amount to see or do
does looks quite good all lit up at night, though. In a particularly cheesy sort of way.
3) A lot of people, for views of the city, go up the Round Tower, which is right in the middle of Copenhagen. But we found that the views from the Church of our Saviour, in Christianshavn, were far better. There's quite a lot of steps to climb, but the views from the church spire are three times higher up than those from the Round Tower, so it's definitely worth the walk out of the centre just to see the city properly from high up.
4) Christiana. Christiana is a sort of self-run community, in the middle of and yet independent from the rest of Copenhagen, which was set up about 30 years ago when a load of hippies decided to settle down on some unused land which at the time belonged to the Ministry of Defence. While Christiana has made a few ...
