Location - the hotel is about a 5 minute walk outside Goreme. That means it's quieter than being in the town but not so convenient (especially when the electricity goes down and the street lights go out walking back in the middle of the night)
The hotel is on 4 or 5 floors I would guess - we were in the basement. The rooms were of moderate size and the beds firm and comfortable. The rooms have good bright windows. There is TV - if that's important to you - although for the first few days we were restricted to Polish MTV or a French 'arts' channel. I don't know if it's just coincidence but after a group of Japanese tourists joined us in the hotel, they switched on a wider range of cable stations and we got BBC world. The shower is a mystery to itself - there's a curtain but the water just goes where it will.
Facilities - There's a bar in the lobby. We used it just the once and didn't see anyone else using it. The breakfast room is large and bright but the breakfast selection is a bit disappointing. When there are few people in the hotel they lay out a plate for you and there's no evidence of any staff - I think the fairies lay out the food. Typical breakfast is filling but cold and basic - an egg, some cheese, a bit of sausage, some olives (lots of olives) butter, cheese, some dodgy jam, basket of loaves (usually yesterday's and not very fresh). The coffee is poor sub-nescafe with only rehydrated powdered milk and the juice is powdered. The height of excitement was the day we got cornflakes Telephones - in every room Internet - available in the lobby for about a pound per hour. Can't comment if it was good. Swimming pool - good size but empty in March
On a couple of occasions our rooms hadn't been made up when we got back from walking. Those were the days when the hotel had Japanese groups in - apparently the cleaners want to clean those rooms first because they tend to tip better than Brits.
I asked the tour leader about the hotel and he said that although it was soul-less, it was the best value for the least number of complaints. Apparently the other hotels in town in the same price bracket are worse. I think that's something you need to bear in mind. If you want to stay in a characterful room carved out of a rock then don't go to the Ciner - but if you are on a budget and want a quiet clean place and don't need to become best friends with the staff on the front desk, it'll do you fine.
