At last, a comfortable cinema! Cineworld was built in my home town of Ashford (Kent) a couple of years ago with great anticipation. The old cinema was knocked down years and years ago, and so the natives of Ashford have been travelling to Maidstone or Canterbury, both a twenty minute drive, to enjoy the latest film releases.
Now, there is no need to go travelling that far. Cineworld is situated just off the M20 at junction 9, and so is easily accessible to everybody outside Ashford, and as it is a minute drive from the town centre, people in Ashford do not have a problem getting there either, although there is no bus service, which would be very profitable.
The cinema itself is simply, big! Going in through one of the many doors after parking in the massive parking area you are faced with a big empty flooring area, ideal if you are meeting someone there. Looking up will you see a ceiling of mirrors, very nice! There is four ticket purchasing desks which is usually enough as the technology used on the computers allows you to wonder in and out the queue very quickly.
Before going in the cinema you can go in the games room. Yep, a games room. There is air hockey, racing games and shoot-em-ups, so the usual selection to keep you amused while you wait for your chance to get into the cinema screen area. Reasonably priced too. Unlike the Haagan Daaz! (I think its spelt like that). This is quite expensive, with a two pound coin exiting your wallet for a small tub. The popcorn is at an acceptable price, about one fifty for a small tub, increasing not too seriously as the tub size increases. The sweets are a bit dearer, you probably pay one and a half pence for a penny sweet!
The screens themselves….oh yes! There are twelve of them! They come in a range of sizes, from a few hundred seater to about eighty, and this can be very intimate and close, or spaced out and exciting. The seats are very comfortable, very much cushioned, and there is a cup holder on the arm rest so you are not always bending over to pick it up from the floor. These also lift up on the back row if for some reason you want there to be no gap between yourself and the person sitting next to you. You catch my drift! There is also a lot of leg space, so even the taller members of the public should be OK. I have not yet been in the delux screen, but I believe that you have your own waitress, who will get you drinks etc when you want them. The sound system is great, no distortion, nice surround sound.
The tickets are reasonably priced for the facilities. Five pounds for an adult ticket after six pm, three fifty beforehand, with child tickets three fifty after six and two fifty before I believe. Tuesdays see all prices being knocked down to two pounds whatever the time, an excellent deal. The delux screen is ten pound on a normal day, with the price down to about six pounds on Tuesdays.
I know that the links through Ciao relate Cineworld to Birmingham, but I know that these cinemas are popping up all over the place, and are well worth a visit. This is the only opinion on Cineworld so far, so you will have to take my word for everything!
Overall, good accessibility, good parking, good facilities, good screens, good sounds, and a good film experience!
