Advantages: Inriguing story with surprising twists and turns Disadvantages: Keeps you in the dark about what is happening a bit too much
'Citadel of Dreams' is the second book in a series of Dr. Who Novellas published by Telos. A novella is basically shorter than a novel, but not as short as a short story, so they average around 20,000 to 40,000 words each (this particular novella is 112 pages). The novellas are written by different authors (some established, and some not established, Dr. Who writers) and Dave Stone's 'Citadel of Dreams' is quite a bizarre addition to the range!
This second novella is set in the futuristic city of Hokesh and is mainly centred around a boy called Joey Quine, who spends most of his life scavenging on the streets. However, he soon finds that he can see into the minds of other people and even influence them, and he is also subjected to strange visions and dreams. Earlier this year, my eldest daughter and her husband asked us if they could move back in with us for three to four months in-between houses. We agreed and he date for the move was set. Dave and I decided we would go away for a few days prior to the due date aware of just how much work would be involved in the move.
We didn?t want to go too far and our main aim for the few days was that of relaxation. The Lighthouse in Llandudno had been recommended to us and we were signposted to the website, http://www.distinctlydifferent.co.uk/ddgift.htm. Unfortunately, The Lighthouse was fully booked for the time we wanted but listed on the site was The Citadel in Shrewsbury.
Described as ?a dower house in the form of a miniature castle?, The Citadel was located just outside Hawkstone Park (famous for its follies) and just half an hour?s drive ...
Summertime is traditionally when the refreshing thirst-quenching properties of wheat beers come into their own. This year in Scotland, we had summer from 23-25th June which didn't exactly leave a lot of time for sampling some but, luckily for you, I had the good foresight to take notes when I had a bottle of Belgian wheat beer in the South of France last year.
There's nothing better than sitting, people watching, at a pavement café on the French Riviera, while sipping on a cool wheat beer (actually there are a great many things which are better, but that's another story).
And that brings me neatly to the subject of this review, BLANCHE de NAMUR.
Brasserie du Bocq, in the Ardennes village of Purnode, in Belgium, was originally a farm/brewery which began life back in 1858 brewing only in the winter when there wasn't enough work ...
