I stayed here about 3 years ago on my first visit to Nottingham. The day started with a flight down to East Midlands and then a bus to Nottingham City Centre which took about an hour. Upon arrival, my friend and i looked for accommodation around Nottingham and even went to the tourist information centre to pick up a booklet of all the accommodation options in and around the city. It was approximately 28 degrees and we looked through the booklet many times and ended up walking around for two hours in order to try and find a guest house and bed and breakfast- which there were absolutely none in the City Centre. We almost gave up hope until we came across a place called Citylodge which was in the City Centre and claimed to be "affordable luxury". Seeing as we didn't have many options other than going to a hotel, we decided to stay here for two nights as it was starting to get late and we were both very tired. When we first walked in,the reception staff were not very welcoming at all. The look on their faces seemed to suggest that we were aliens or something or somehow we couldn't afford to stay at their hotel or something.
Perhaps that is why they took payment for the room in advance as most places i've been to,take payment after you check out but this was NOT the case at Citilodge!. The total bill was £59 per night which was £118 for two nights excluding breakfast as that was an optional extra of £6 per person . This seemed ok considering the location was good and it was a hotel as opposed to a guesthouse(even though there we came across none in the city centre or on our 2 hour walk around the city).
Onto the room itself,it was nicely decorated with neutral colours and there were two single beds as well as a nice view with three windows in the room. The toilet was clean and there was a shower and a bath which was an added bonus. There was quite a lot of room and the place was spacious overall.
Overall the experience at citilodge was ok if it was not for the negative first impressions that we encountered at the reception desk. However The City of Nottingham turned out to be a disappointment and i don't envisage returning back anytime soon.
