ARTWORK – Ground Floor
Here you will see the work of graphic artists – these artists produce ‘concept designs’, used as sources of information and inspiration during the making of the film.
Apart from probably being worth a huge amount of money, these pictures are fantastically detailed. I would go so far as to say, I would not be averse to having a couple of them hanging on my wall.
I went to ‘The Art of Star Wars’ to keep my fiance company – I enjoy the films, but have to admit, I am not a massive fan.
I expected to be standing by, waiting until we could move on, however, how surprised was I when I discovered that I was enjoying myself at this exploration of the work of the creative artists involved in making the Star Wars films.

VISUAL EFFECTS AND ‘CREATURES’ – First Floor On this floor, you can discover how visual effects were used to create characters in the Star Wars films – the use of latex models and digital effects etc. There are also models of famous characters, such as Yoda. Plenty here for kids to do, as there are masks that they can try on.
MODELS – Second Floor As you can imagine, there were thousands of models used in the making of the films – spaceships and vehicles. You’ll be amazed how detailed these are on closer inspection, yet also how much they look like kid’s toys, which have been played with a lot!
COSTUMES – Third Floor Costumes always tend to be my favourite bit of exhibitions, and, again, it’s great to see these close up (although, isn’t everyone in Hollywood soooo slim?!). Princess Leia’s outfit looks tiny. And Chewbacca is huge. You can also see Queen Amidala’s elaborate costumes from The Phantom Menace.
DROIDS, SOUND AND (MY FAVOURITE!) DARTH VADER – Fourth Floor Many youngster’s favourite characters, C-3PO and R2D2 are here. Apparently, a golden fibreglass and aluminium suit was designed to a life cast of Anthony Daniels (who plays C-3PO), and it weighs 60 pounds, and took 2 hours to assemble.
You can learn more about the sound effects by listening through the headphones at listening posts – I won’t ruin for you the unexpected way some of the sound effects were done.
OK, my favourite bit – Darth Vader’s room. Oh yes, he gets a room all to himself – pitch black except for blood red lights illuminating his costume, along with the scary breathing sound. Now, I’ve just written a review of Blade 2 – I wasn’t particularly scared of that, but on a sunny Sunday afternoon, in the heart of Edinburgh, I pushed my fiance in before me, and stuck close to the wall!! Fantastic.
There are gift shops and a café, however, I didn’t think the gift shop was up to much. I had expected to see prints of the artwork I’d seen on the first floor, but my fiance bought cd’s of the sound tracks, so he was happy. It sells the usual t-shirts, models of the characters, and dressing up outfits.
I would recommend you go and see this exhibition, even if you are not a huge fan. After all, Star Wars is a huge piece of cinematic history.DETAILS:

...Wars Exhibition opened in the City Arts Centre in Edinburgh. The exhibition features artwork, models and costumes from all the Star Wars movies but more on that later.
The City Arts Centre is slap bang in the centre of Edinburgh, right beside the train station, and with the huge banners that they hang from the roof you will always be able to find it. The building itself is five stories high and exhibitions generally take up the entire building including ... ...and of course stairs. Naturally there are gift shops and a coffee shop in the building.
The Art of Star Wars Exhibition makes good use of the building and apart from one or two little things the whole exhibition is fantastic. The first problem I encountered was as soon as I arrived when I was met by a large queue snaking down the street. Still it was opening weekend so perhaps it will get a bit better as the weeks go on.
The queue did move quite ...

Dux De Lux is an ?aquatarian? restaurant/bar complex in Christchurch, New Zealand that offers great food for vegetarians (and pescetarians) at a reasonable price. It is located in the citycentre, next to the Artscentre, and is extremely close to the Botanic Gardens. On the two occasions that I have been there, the outside seating has been extremely crowded, with a few spaces inside in the restaurant area. Dux de Lux is a complex that is divided into several parts ? including the restaurant, three bars, and two outside seating areas. This review is about the restaurant.
The atmosphere
The furnishing and atmosphere here are a quirky mixture of ?traditional British pub? mixed with ?gleaming school canteen? ? for the most part, the tables and surrounds are very traditional, with thick carpets and wooden panelling, but the food ...
Cardiff, the national capital of Wales, surprises a lot of first time visitors and captivates many of them. Old images of an industrial and coal exporting port, are no longer relevant-today Cardiff is entering a new golden age with exciting new developments taking place both across the city and on the waterfront at Cardiff Bay.
The city has a great deal to offer today's visitor. For starters there is a delightful castle in the citycentre. Then there is the spanking new Millennium Stadium, great art galleries, museums, and outstanding shopping to be enjoyed.
Head down to Cardiff Bay and you will find up market eateries, night clubs,a bowling alley, a science centre of world importance, a 5 star luxury hotel and spa, and a fascinating artcentre in the old Norwegian sailor's church.
The city has one of the finest civic centres in Europe ...
Advantages: location: 2 hours from Montreal, o hour from American border, international flights Disadvantages: can't think of any
There is something to do all year-round in this clean, truly beautiful city. National Museums abound in the Nation's Capital. The National ArtsCentre, smaller theaters, large festivals of all kinds attract locals and tourists alike. One can enjoy boating on the Ottawa River or on the Rideau Canal. There are miles of hiking and cycling trails, even river rafting. In winter, the Rideau Canal is transformed into the longest skating rink in the world. About half of its population speaks both French and English. Many excellent restaurants catering to all tastes are found in this increasingly multi-ethnic city. ...
