City Backpackers is rated as one of the best hostels in Europe and I fully agree!

I arrived on the ferry and walked the 2 miles from the dock, so by the time I arrived, I was exhausted. Luckily for me, the hostel was the perfect environment to just 'flop'.

Downstairs, there were two common rooms, one with a huge TV, a million channels, plenty of dining tables and the comfiest sofas, and the second with free hot drinks, more tables and about 8 computers offering free hi speed internet access....Elsewhere in the hostel there was a small shared kitchen, a laundry room with room for stored baggage (accessible to any guest, but lockers could also be hired) as well as the usual books, tourist info, maps etc. In the kitchen there was a huge tub of free pasta - a brilliant idea and not one I have seen elsewhere! The décor was all very attractive and it was thoroughly cleaned. The staff on reception were very friendly and storing luggage before or after check in/out was no problem.

One odd thing about the hostel, which people either loved or despised, was the rule that everyone must remove their shoes before going downstairs. This meant that as you entered the hall, there was a shoe rack covering the whole wall…and of course, downstairs the floors were spotless! Personally, I found that it made the place a little more homely, since that is the only instance when I would take off my shoes otherwise!

The atmosphere was wonderful. There were many people chilling out downstairs and there were invitations to drinks etc floating about. One stranger asked me how my day had been without having seen him before - it was that friendly! In other hostels I have visited somehow the atmosphere is less relaxed - either there is not the space to socialise or the place has a business-like or impersonal feel.

In summary, several invaluable freebies and conveniences. A little more expensive than some hostels, at 20euros, but well worth it for the quality! I wouldn't stay anywhere else (no, not even a hotel!)

I've had a look and I can't find anywhere this would have been copied from.

This is certainly not copied - I tried the link, variations of it and the search function on the site and it didn't come up with anything...!
