Great Hostel - Get what you pay for!

Advantages: Great, Clean Friendly Hostel
Disadvantages: More Expensive

Perth City YHA Perth City YHA is in a great location, walking distance from the main shopping area and bars and restaurants. Railway and Bus services are close by. Rooms: Dorm rooms are available from 4 ? 10 Bed, we opted for a 4 bed dorm room so that we could all stay together, and the room was a good size with two bunk beds. All linen is provided, lockers are available for use in the rooms but you will need your own padlock. The hostel had an overall feeling of cleanliness which was great and the female bathrooms where very nicely kept. We had been warned previously that this hostel could be noisy and that you can hear the trains going by at the railway, but we are pleased to say we never heard a thing. Facilities: The kitchen at this hostel has to be one of the biggest I have seen; there are also ample food ...

HI-Calgary - the roughest youth hostel I have stayed in

Advantages: Cheap, friendly
Disadvantages: Rough

Calgary city centre has several youth hostels; we stayed at HI Calgary. This is located in 520-7th Avenue, on the outskirts of Downtown Calgary and about a 10-15 minute gentle walk from Calgary Tower and the shopping areas of town. The location is two minutes walk from the nearby C-Train (this is a tram) stop which runs through downtown. This stop is the outermost limit of the centre zone that allows free travel, which is extremely useful because wandering around the city gets tiring after a while! This part of town is rather rough. There is a large park outside the hostel where people would sleep on the benches. We saw several people who were under the influence and acting in a quite belligerent manner, which was a little intimidating. You have to walk quite a long way to get any shopping in as well, which is a nuisance. The hostel ...

Great value in Berlin city centre

Advantages: Value
Disadvantages: Nothing springs to mind

My friend and I went to Berlin earlier on this month for a short break to get away from the bad Scottish weather. We were away for three days and four nights and were looking for somewhere cheap but comfortable to stay. We ended up staying at the Holiday Inn Express City Centre West. Cost Cost is always my prime consideration when making any purchase so I was delighted with the price of £27 per person per night for a twin room at the Holiday Inn Express, especially given the poor Euro exchange rate for tourists. This was a special offer from one of the many websites that offers good deals on hotels. The special offer gave 25% off the standard price so the standard price would be £36 per night. This is still pretty good value I think, for the reasons listed below in my review? Booking As mentioned above I booked through ...
