Times Square theater district and Fifth Avenue shopping. Emerging from the building's storied limestone facade, which once housed an exclusive social club, guests may venture via Town Car or foot to Manhattan's prestigious restaurants and venues. Though discrete and personable in every regard, the City Club is not a boutique. Hotel owner and self described ''eternal host'' Jeff Klein avoids the tired cliché surrounding the b word. If there was ever a distinction to be made between the fleeting panache of boutique hotels and the timeless echelon of sophistication, the City Club makes it apparent. Indeed, the City Club defies the boutique stereotype with aspirations of immortality. Notable designer Jeffrey Bilhuber, whose clients include David Bowie and Michael Douglas, orchestrated the hotel's interior. The City Club's elegantly styled lobby was designed not to impress, but to entice on a diminutive scale. The typicallyintimidating and cold expanse of marble and stone found all too often in New York has been supplanted for an intimate tchotchkie laden sitting area with inviting sofas on a designer cork floor. World renowned chef Daniel Boulud's newest restaurant, DB Bistro Moderne, reinvents the traditional European bistro as a contemporary culinary jewel box. Advantages: Great location, better than a days inn..... Disadvantages: Not MUCH better than a days inn....... not very clean, so-so service.....

Location of the hotel: GREAT! You are right in the middle of midtown, where most of the great new york things are. Well, this was supposed to be a 4 stars hotel but it wasn't worth it. The room were nice and service people were always smiling, but you get that in a Days inn. You don't get more than that. We had loads of luggage and nobody helped us with them. they could barely hold the door opened for us. It was not 4 stars quality.
After walking around in the room for 5 minutes ,the bottom of my socks (original color : white) turned brown. Bed sheets, shower and toilet were all clean, but the floor was DIRTY. Bathroom was a nice black / chocolate marble color. They bring you 2 chocolate chip cookies every evening at 6:30 (tasty, home made) and you get a copy of the new york times every morning (not the same copy everyday, it changes with the date:) ! ).
The hotel's restaurant is well reviewed and known in new york though it was not to my taste. There is no Bar, though you can drink beer and wine in the restaurant. I don't enjoy this so I had to go to the algonquin's bar, which is next door, to drink a good beer in a nice setting.... Oh and I had better service from the Algonquin's personnel than from the city club's, even when I told them I was a customer of their next door competitors.....
Location of the hotel: GREAT! You are right in the middle of midtown, where most of the great new york things are. Grand central, Times Square, 5th avenue, St-Patrick cathedral, empire state building, chrysler building, Rockefeller center, all within 5 to 20 minutes to reach on foot. Easy access to subway and loads of restaurants close by. If you are going to new york by car, There is a parking (private) right in front of the hotel. You get a discount if you are staying with the city club, so you save a little there..... Cost me 240 US $ for the parking anyway.... No problem with the car, nothing stolen, no broken windows and no scratches, so recommended.
If you are on a budget and want a "OK" hotel with the best possible location, the city club can ben a good choice. It costs less than its neighbours (The algonquin and the Iroquois), but its not as good (These 3 hotels are all 4 stars rated...). You pay a premium for the perfect location.....
