We stayed her for one night. It's billed as close to City Centre but this is not strictly true. It is a bus, tram or trolley-bus ride away and will take an average of about 20 minutes to get there. It may save a lot of hassle to take a taxi which at about Ł5 is a reasonably priced option. The hotel is bright, clean and modern. The room we had was a twin superior, non smoking room on 9th floor with a small balcony. We had only paid for a standard room but were upgraded without additional cost on arrival. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. The bathroom though small was adequate with snow white fluffy towels and a nice display of freebies. The breakfast buffet was extensive and plentiful and the staff were pleasant and helpful. I would definetly stay here again.
...Bratislava is only about an hour and a half from Vienna, and is well worth a detour to, or a stopover via if you are en route to Budapest. If you are staying for a couple of days or more then I would recommend the Slovak Spectator, a fortnightly publication in English, which has details of events in Bratislava, although the style is dreary. For great views, climb up to the castle and look down over the Danube, or take the lift up the SNP - looks like one of The Tripods... and there are great views other the city. For a weekend trip some hotels offer discoutned rooms and in any case prices are cheap so Bratislava is a budget destination. The hydrofoil from Vienna takes 90 minutes to get to Bratislava and costs about GBP 12, leaving from the Reichsbrücke on the Danube Canal in Vienna, running from mid-April to the end of October. Otherwise...

Advantages: Cheap, reasonably cheerful, one of the city's better hotels Disadvantages: Eastern Europe and Western Europe still differ a lot
...a luxury hotel. The other guests were interesting though – not many tourists, mainly business men and some young (though not famous) American actors who were filming in the city centre (being on my own, I took a book down to breakfast, and then eavesdropped).

Advantages: It's a bustling, enjoyable city Disadvantages: People don't know how good it is!
...a screaming at your feet which was quite daunting but if you have the same attitude as the locals and ignore them they don't ruin your time there.
** Getting there **
When i went, i had to drive because there were no flights from the UK but now, companies like easyjet often fly to eastern european countries for a really good price! Also, there's a hotel Ibis in Bratislava which has really good prices, so if you want to go to the city but are not too sure staying in a Slovakian hotel, this friendly European hotel is great.

With its convenient and quiet location near Bratislava\\\'s historic city center, the City Hotel Bratislava prides itself on good service. This hotel offers everything you could want in a three star hotel and more. There\\\'s the Lobby Bar; the Grill Bar Atrium; a nonstop business center with Internet access, a copy machine and a printer; a relaxation center with a sauna, solarium, massage, hairdresser and nail studio; a large, guarded parking garage. . . there\\\'s even a topless night club, called Paradise.
