Stayed here in May 2007 to attend a concert at SECC. The location is great, a £6-£8 cab ride from the city centre depending on where you pick up a cab and is right next door to the SECC. The hotel is relatively modern and follows the same style as many business traveller orientated places. The emphasis is on style and comfort as well as showing off lots of gadgety benefits - well stocked mini-bar, dvd player in room, cd sound systems.
Unfortunately the staff are a little lack-lustre and really disinterested in guests - treating them all as if they were on a conveyor belt rather than individuals. Similarly, when the hotel is busy there appears to be an inability to cope with it - staff seem rushed, harried and confused by a large number of guests. Due to this, standards appeared to slip a little - dirty plates and cutlery, warm rather than hot food, running out of stock of basic food items.
Overall, if you are not looking for anything overly special the City Inn is a competent hotel. It's handy for the SECC and is central without being subject to the noise and bustle of the city centre.

Sounds a bit too pricey for a budget traveller! :)

Advantages: Amazing food, friendly and professional staff, lovely rooms Disadvantages: £20 cab ride away from airport, sound proofing not as good as it could be
